Sunrisers Eastern Cape created history in the SA20 2024 by defending their title in the second edition of the tournament. They went on to defeat the Durban’s Super Giants by 89 runs. The SEC team seemed to have a clear goal in their mind when they came to play the match against the DSG. The toppers of the group excelled in all the departments of the game and that was the main reason why they retained the title.

On winning the toss, SEC chose to bat first. They had the right idea to score some runs and put the pressure back on the opposition. As the top-order batters gave a terrific start, the middle-order batters continued the momentum throughout the innings. Jordan Herman, Tom Abell, Aiden Markram, and Tristan Stubbs were the main batters because of whom SEC reached a total of 204 runs. DSG’s bowling department wasn’t having a good day as they just managed to take three wickets, two of which were taken by Keshav Maharaj.

Hoping to win their first title, DSG came in to bat. However, just like the bowlers, the batters failed to perform as well. Moreover, they gave away too many wickets at the start of the match and three of their batters were dismissed on 0. The team’s highest score was Wiaan Mulder’s 38 runs off 22 balls. Moreover, the SEC bowlers were amazing as they restricted the team to just 115 runs. Marco Jansen was the star as he claimed a five-wicket haul. Moreover, Tom Abell was awarded with the Player of the Match award.

‘Personal performances can only take you so far’ – Marco Jansen on taking a fifer

As Sunrisers Eastern Cape won their 2nd SA20 title, Marco Jansen had an amazing day with the ball as he took five wickets. He was responsible for dismissing half of the team. Thus, the Durban’s Super Giants were restricted to just 115 runs. As the post-match presentation, Jansen got the ‘Rising Star of the Season’ award. Moreover, after winning the award, Jansen went on to share his experience in the tournament and also mentioned the fact that personal performances are really important as they can win matches for the team.

Jansen said, “Had a nice season this year, couldn’t have done it without the guys. Personal performances can only take you so far. Those two with me is an awesome feeling. Just to know if I’m not on it on any given occasion, they’ll carry me. With the bat, I just go out and try and enjoy it. If it comes off, it comes off. Awesome feeling (five-for). Sure we’ll celebrate long tonight.”

Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary has made a huge claim on the mindset of the youngster. The former India cricketer recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and has been talking a lot about the game since then. His statements have set the social media on fire and the fans have mixed opinions. One such statement has been the priorities of the younger players.

The former Indian player claimed that the IPL has changed the mindset of the youngsters. He claimed that the players today often go to Dubai and other places when they are not in the Indian squad. He added that it has reduced the significance of the domestic tournaments. The statement from Tiwary came following the statement of Jay Shah regarding the warning for players.

“I can observe that young players have adopted an IPL-centric mindset. Those who don’t play IPL often go to Dubai or other places whenever they find some free time,” said Tiwary. He felt that a post that he made on X reached the headquarters and led to the Indian secretary taking a serious step on those who skipped playing the Ranji Trophy in recent times.

Trend is diminishing the significance of the prestigious Ranji Trophy – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj felt that the diminishing stature of the Ranji Trophy has led to the changing mindset of the players. While Tiwary claimed the IPL to be a huge platform for the players, he added that the importance of the Ranji Trophy needs to increase. He asked Jay Shah and other heads of the Indian Cricket Board to take steps towards increasing the significance of domestic cricket.

“However, this trend is diminishing the significance of the prestigious Ranji Trophy. IPL is a massive platform for all of us, but I also request the BCCI president and secretary to increase the significance of the Ranji Trophy,” added Tiwary in his statement. Some players did not care about taking part in the Ranji Trophy recently despite being fit to play. Jay Shah was angry with the motives of such players.

India set to miss two key players for fourth Test against England

India are set to miss two big resources for the fourth Test against England. The home side will be playing the fourth Test without the services of star players like KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah. It might be a big miss for India considering how good they have been in the format over the years. Bumrah, in particular, will be a huge miss for India.

The Indian Cricket Board announced the updated squad for the last two Tests of the series against England. There were three changes in the squad. The likes of Bumrah and Rahul are excluded from the squad. Mukesh Kumar has been added back to the squad after being removed from the third Test of the series in Rajkot.

While Bumrah has been rested keeping in mind the workload management, Rahul is yet to be fully match-fit to play in Ranchi where the fourth Test takes place. Mukesh, who did not have a great time in the 2nd Test, went to Ranji Trophy and claimed a ten-wicket haul. The absence of Bumrah for the 4th Test brings Mukesh back to the side.

KL Rahul’s participation in the fifth Test subject to fitness

“The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times,” the statement of the Indian Cricket Board claimed. If India cannot win the fourth Test in Ranchi, Bumrah is likely to be back for the fifth Test. The statement of the Indian Cricket Board added that Rahul’s presence in Dharamshala would depend on his fitness.

“His participation in the final Test match in Dharamsala is subject to fitness,” the statement of the Indian Cricket Board added. Nothing has been said about Virat Kohli yet, who became a father for the 2nd time in his life. The only possibility of him taking part in the series would probably be in Dharamshala, which is not yet confirmed. India will be playing the 4th Test in the hope of winning the series, having a lead of 2-1 already till now
