Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram took a spectacular catch to get rid of JJ Smuts in Qualifier 1 of the SA20 2024. The skipper of Sunrisers Eastern Cape helped them to get the big wicket with his catch. The video has now gone viral on the Internet as the fans could not praise him enough for the brilliant effort. Many regard it as the best catch of the tournament.

Baartman bowled a short ball to JJ Smuts. The South African batter tried to clear the ball over the mid-on. However, the right-handed batter did not get enough elevation. The ball went towards the mid-on region. However, Markram was not towards the 30-yard circle. He had stationed himself towards the close in, to stop the batters from rotating strike.

As a result, Aiden had to make a diving effort, or rather a flying effort to get close to the impact of the ball. The skipper of Sunrisers was not just successful in getting close to the ball but ended up claiming the catch in style. It was such a brilliant catch which helped the fielding side to get the momentum in the match. The catch enabled them to have a clear advantage in the match.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape progress to second SA20 final in a row

Sunrisers entered the final of the tournament for the 2nd time in a row. The defending champions had won the league the last time it was played in 2023 under the leadership of Markram. This time around, they look good for yet another title win. The performance against Durban Super Giants was an example of what they can do on the big stage.

Defending just 158, Sunrisers were brilliant with the ball and in the field. They gave nothing away to the opponents. In the Eliminator today, Paarl Royals will take on the Joburg Super Kings. The winner of the match would face Durban Super Giants in the 2nd Qualifier game. The winner of the Qualifier 2 will get a chance to face Sunrisers in the Grand Finale of the 2nd edition of the SA20.
