Sunrisers Eastern Cape created history in the SA20 2024 by defending their title in the second edition of the tournament. They went on to defeat the Durban’s Super Giants by 89 runs. The SEC team seemed to have a clear goal in their mind when they came to play the match against the DSG. The toppers of the group excelled in all the departments of the game and that was the main reason why they retained the title.

On winning the toss, SEC chose to bat first. They had the right idea to score some runs and put the pressure back on the opposition. As the top-order batters gave a terrific start, the middle-order batters continued the momentum throughout the innings. Jordan Herman, Tom Abell, Aiden Markram, and Tristan Stubbs were the main batters because of whom SEC reached a total of 204 runs. DSG’s bowling department wasn’t having a good day as they just managed to take three wickets, two of which were taken by Keshav Maharaj.

Hoping to win their first title, DSG came in to bat. However, just like the bowlers, the batters failed to perform as well. Moreover, they gave away too many wickets at the start of the match and three of their batters were dismissed on 0. The team’s highest score was Wiaan Mulder’s 38 runs off 22 balls. Moreover, the SEC bowlers were amazing as they restricted the team to just 115 runs. Marco Jansen was the star as he claimed a five-wicket haul. Moreover, Tom Abell was awarded with the Player of the Match award.

‘Personal performances can only take you so far’ – Marco Jansen on taking a fifer

As Sunrisers Eastern Cape won their 2nd SA20 title, Marco Jansen had an amazing day with the ball as he took five wickets. He was responsible for dismissing half of the team. Thus, the Durban’s Super Giants were restricted to just 115 runs. As the post-match presentation, Jansen got the ‘Rising Star of the Season’ award. Moreover, after winning the award, Jansen went on to share his experience in the tournament and also mentioned the fact that personal performances are really important as they can win matches for the team.

Jansen said, “Had a nice season this year, couldn’t have done it without the guys. Personal performances can only take you so far. Those two with me is an awesome feeling. Just to know if I’m not on it on any given occasion, they’ll carry me. With the bat, I just go out and try and enjoy it. If it comes off, it comes off. Awesome feeling (five-for). Sure we’ll celebrate long tonight.”
