The worst fears of a Spurs fan are about to come true.
Apparently, Son Heung-min is considering quitting Tottenham Hotspur just one year after signing a bumper new contract.
The former Bayer Leverkusen winger had signed a new contract with Spurs in July 2021 which ties him down until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 30 year-old forward is one of the most formidable attackers in world football.
He joined the north London club back in 2015 and has consistently been one of their top performers.
Last week, he finished in 11th place in the Ballon d’Or rankings, underlining his stature.
However, the Premier League’s joint 2021/22 season top-scorer has become disillusioned with the lack of silverware at Tottenham.
Not surprisingly, he is planning to leave, as per some sources in the German media.
Son probably feels that the Spurs’ trophy drought is set to continue and the club is not going to win anything, anytime soon.
Spurs came close to winning trophies on two occasions, reaching the 2019 Champions League finals under Pochettino and the 2021 League Cup finals under Mourinho.
At the time he said: “It was already a big honour to play here for six years.”
“The club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here. It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy.”
But things change fast in football.
There has been rumoured interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain that can turn any footballer’s head.
Also, Spurs have been poor in the Premier League in the past 2 matches.
Moreover, there is uncertainty over manager Conte’s contract and speculation about harry Kane’s future, which may have unsettled Son.
There have been reports about Kane eyeing a move to Bayern Munich next summer.
Losing Kane and Son at the same time will be a nightmare for any Spurs fan.
