Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill’s century in the second innings of the Vizag Test against England seemed to make former England skipper Kevin Pietersen happy more than anyone else. Notably, it was just a few days back, that Pietersen backed Gill following an all-sided criticism for the latter for his dismal run of form in the last 3 Test innings against England.

“Kallis averaged 22 in his first 10 Tests and turned out to be arguably the greatest player to play the game. Give Shubman Gill time to find it, please. He’s a serious player!” wrote Pietersen in his X-post (formerly Twitter) on the first day of the ongoing second Test between India and England.

Now, the former England batting stalwart has come again with another special two-word X-post for Shubman Gill. KP reshared his old post and wrote “Thank You, Shubman Gill.”

Here’s a look at the X-post from Kevin Pietersen for Shubman Gill

Speaking of the ongoing action of the match, India have scored 229 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 66 overs courtesy of Shubma Gill’s brilliant century; apart from this, the pair of Shubman Gill and Axar Patel also stitched a crucial partnership of 89 runs for the fifth wicket in the second innings for India. The Latter also contributed with 45 runs off 84 balls, with 6 balls.

Currently, India have taken a lead of 372 runs in the second innings with an addition of 143-run lead in the first innings.

Tom Hartley has scalped 3 wickets for England in the second innings, alongside two wickets each picked by James Anderson and Rehan Ahmed. Apart from this, the young debutant Shoaib Bashir has also claimed one wicket to his name in the second innings.

Earlier in the first innings, the Indian bowling attack led by star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah bundled out England at the score of 253 runs. Bumrah bagged 6 wickets just at the cost of 44 runs in 15.5 overs, with 5 maiden overs.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
