International Football Association Board introduces blue card in Football

Blue Card

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has decided to introduce a new ‘Blue card’ in Football in the upcoming days. The move comes almost 54 years after the introduction of red and yellow cards. The reports claim that they will be in effect very soon. For the first time since 1970, a new card has been introduced in the sport which has its significance.

The Blue card in Football will be handed to those who vanish from the pitch for ten minutes and return after the duration. It is also set to be reserved for some kinds of offences. The reports claim that they will be used for cynical fouls or dissent that aim towards blocking a promising attack without posing a threat to the players from the opposition.

It is also suggested that a player bagging two blue cards, or a yellow card and a blue card will result in bagging a red card. The rule is created as the current set of rules has a red card being issued for attaining two yellow cards. As there could be a need for refining, the top-tier competitions are being excluded from the rule.

New card to be introduced under Sin-bin protocols

In the upcoming summer, the elite trials will witness the implementation of the rule. A Blue card is a higher warning than a Yellow card. But it does not have a higher impact on a player than the red card. It could potentially lead the players to get a red card. The Football Association of Wales was set to introduce the card in their domestic leagues.

As a part of sin-ban protocols, the new card will be announced by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) on Monday. Sin-Bin have been able to get rid of dissents over the years at the domestic level. The latest trials might also witness the introduction of punishment for committing tactical fouls. The on-field referees will have the right to declare the player out of the pitch for ten minutes with the new rule.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been punished for his provoking gestures over the fans in the Saudi Pro League 2024. After the game between Al Nassr and Al Shabab, where Ronaldo’s side lost an opportunity to win the title, the fans got overboard and started chanting Lionel Messi’s name. It did not go well with the Al Nassr player who gave back to the fans.

An irritated Ronaldo signalled the fans that he was in the arena, and not Lionel Messi. In the process, Cristiano asked the fans to support him, and not the Argentine. After the gesture of Ronaldo, the fans started booing him. Further in social media, the fans asked the officials to take action against the star player. It looks like the officials have responded to the demand of the fans.

In addition to it, he has also been handed a 1-match ban in the upcoming game.

Second instance of Cristiano Ronaldo giving back to Lionel Messi fans

A similar incident had happened during the game between Al Nassr and Al Hilal. In the final of the Riyadh Season Cup final 2024, Ronaldo and his side lost the game. After the final, the fans of Messi started chanting his name. Ronaldo was angry back then and provoked the fans with a similar gesture. Back then, Cristiano was warned by the officials. The match saw The Undertaker handing over the award to the winning team.

The WWE Superstar came to the stadium with an iconic entrance and blew away the fans with his presence. Even Ronaldo was impressed with the entrance of the WWE Hall of Famer. Al Nassr, however, could not win the final and ended up being the runner-up. The focus of Ronaldo and Al Nassr is to win the ongoing Saudi Pro League 2024.

Cristiano Ronaldo faced disciplinary action during his stint with Manchester United

A few months before the FIFA World Cup 2022, he threw a fan’s phone when he was part of the English club, Manchester United. He was banned for a few games which meant that he missed a few games for his current club, Nassr. Jurgen Klopp’s men were awarded with the winner’s medal as they edged out Chelsea in a low-scoring thriller that went to extra time. The defence of both sides was good to watch.

The match had many edge-of-the-seat moments. In the first half, Liverpool attempted a lot of shots over Chelsea. While some were out of target, some were in the target, but stopped by the goalkeeper. Cody Gakpo was unlucky to find the ball hit the goalpost. The strike of the youngster went in vain as the first half did not witness any goal.

Liverpool’s skipper was brilliant in the game. He martialed his troops well and got the coordination going for a long time. He in fact nearly had a goal in the first half, only to be ruled out by the VAR, which was highly controversial. There is a debate for the legitimacy of the goal which was not given despite the help of the technology. Liverpool did not get carried away with the moment.

Klopp deployed younger players as substitutes in the 2nd half. It helped Liverpool a lot as they were able to not just put pressure on Chelsea but also create a lot of chances. While none of them were converted to goals in the second half, they ensured that Chelsea’s players were in check. At one stage, the absence of Mohammad Salah in the middle was felt.
