‘Hum white wash hi hoge jis tara halat hein’ – Fans react as New Zealand claim win in 4th T20I against Pakistan to go 4-0 up in series

Published

Pakistan lost the 4th T20I of the series against New Zealand. The home side was undoubtedly the better side in the match like they have been in the last few days in the series, where they have all but sealed the series in style. They extended their winning record over Pakistan to 4 games in a row and gave themselves a good chance to clean-sweep the Asian side.

Batting first, the former T20 World Cup winners found themselves in a difficult situation. The visiting side had contributions only from Mohammad Rizwan who scored 90 runs in 63 balls. Only Mohammad Nawaz was to the support of the wicketkeeper batter with his 21(9). On a slow wicket, Pakistan managed to score 155 runs on the board.

On a wicket that was going to get better, it was not enough to defend. But Pakistan came with a good intent to win the match. Shaheen Afridi was on fire with the new ball as he claimed three wickets in his first spell. The left-arm pacer got rid of Finn Allen and Tim Seifert in the first over of the match. Allen was dismissed for 8(4) and Seifert perished for a golden duck.

Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell take New Zealand home

Afridi also dismissed the Kiwi number 3, Will Young, for 4 runs. NZ were reduced to 20/3 in no time. That was when Daryl Mitchell was joined by Glenn Phillips. The match went only one way from there. The aggressive duo played in the right way and mixed caution with aggression. Barring the initial spell from Shaheen Afridi, other bowlers were ineffective for Pakistan in the match.

The two helped New Zealand to win the match with ease towards the end. While Mitchell scored an unbeaten 72*(44) after playing out the difficult overs, Phillips scored an unbeaten 70*(52) and helped the side to win the match by 7 wickets. It meant that Pakistan was given no chance to make a return in the match. In the process, NZ won the 4th match of the series dominantly.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
