The first Test between Australia and New Zealand has seen yet another twist taking place. Pat Cummins and his side were bowled out for a mere 164 in 51 overs. The star with the ball for New Zealand is none other than Glenn Phillips.

The 27-year-old is primarily known for his batting and began as a wicketkeeper. On Saturday, the Australians had no answer to Glenn Phillips who stole the show with the ball. The visitors had taken a lead of 204 after bowling out New Zealand for 179 in their first innings.

Having been set a target of 369 to win, Nathan Lyon and Travis Head had the Kiwis in trouble. Tom Latham, Will Young, and Kane Williamson were all dismissed towards the fag end of day three.

Ending the second day’s play having lost 2 wickets, Glenn Phillips bundled out Australia for just 164. The 27-year-old ripped through the Aussie middle-order to help New Zealand back into the game.

Nathan Lyon was the first wicket to go when he was out for 41 to Matt Henry. Surprisingly, Nathan Lyon was the top scorer for Australia with the second highest being 34 by Cameron Green.

The first wicket of the day for Phillips was the big scalp of Usman Khawaja for 28. Tom Blundell got caught the batter short of the creased and had him stumped out. Travis Head was out for 29 as he was caught by Scott Kuggeleijn to give Phillips his second wicket.

The very next ball Mitchell Marsh was out for a duck when he was caught by Young off Philips. The 4th wicket came when Alex Carey was well caught by skipper Tim Southee for just 3 runs. Cameron Green who had scored a century in the first innings became Phillips’ 5th wicket.

Australia’s young all-rounder was caught bat-pad by Will Young for 34 to spark massive celebrations. Matt Henry then cleaned up the tail with the wickets of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.

Sensing the turn and bounce on the track, Pat Cummins decided to bring spin into the game early. Tom Latham was caught behind by Alex Carey for 8 to give Nathan Lyon his first wicket.

Kane Williamson was the next to go for 9 as Steve Smith caught a sharp chance off Lyon. Smith was in the game again as he snapped the catch of Will Young for 15 to give Travis Head his 1st wicket.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
