The Indian men’s cricket team qualified for the semi-finals of the 2023 Asian Games after beating Nepal by 23 runs in Hangzhou on Tuesday, October 3. Earlier, the Indian women’s cricket team scripted history in China by winning the gold medal and now their men have a chance to make their country proud. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co. have got a strong start and will now aim to continue their dominance.

Elected to bat first, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a solid start with his powerful striking. A target of 250 looked possible when the southpaw went berserk in the powerplay, but India lost momentum as the Nepal spinners came into play. However, the Men in Blue went into the second innings confident with a good total on a tough track to bat on. Jaiswal and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad put up a 100-plus stand, but the former carried the brunt of the scoring.

Gaikwad (25 runs off 23 balls) struggled to get going and eventually was dismissed by Dipendra Singh in the 10th over. India lost a couple of wickets more in the middle phase as Tilak Varma and Jithesh Sharma failed to find any resistance. Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh made the finishing touch but it was Jaiswal’s innings that helped India post a total of 202-4. The young lad notched up a fantastic century in the process – his first in T20I cricket.

Nepal put up a solid fight chasing 203

Chasing a highly competitive score, Nepal openers gave them a steady start but failed to capitalise on the powerplay. India pacer Avesh Khan drew first blood by removing Aasif Sheikh in the fourth over. Kushal Bhurtel and fastest centurion Kushal Malla tried to form a partnership but Sai Kishore provided a breakthrough by dismissing the former in the 9th over.

Malla (29 off 22), Dipendra Singh Airee (32 off 15) and Sundeep Jora (29 off 12) chipped in with handy cameos, but the target was well beyond their reach. Avesh and spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked three wickets each, while Sai Kishore had a decent debut, grabbing a wicket and also taking three catches. Nepal batters put up a strong fight and proved that they have a bright future in the coming years.

Wanindu Hasaranga brutally criticizes umpire for not signalling no-ball in third T20I between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan

Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga was furious with the decision of the umpire which cost them the match. During the third T20I between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, a decision from the leg umpire named Hannibal ensured that the home side could not chase down the target of 210 runs, which at one point in time looked possible the way Kamanindu Mendis was going at one end.

21 runs were needed for SL against Afghanistan in the last over of the match. The equation came down to 10 of 3. That was when the bowler delivered a waist-high full toss. For the naked eye, it seemed like a huge no-ball. But the umpire did not declare it to be a no-ball, as he felt it to be fine. The batter was a bit ahead of the stance in the crease.

Hasaranga, the skipper of SL, asked for the referral. However, the rule does not allow the fielding captain to challenge the no-ball calls. It left him furious. SL went on to lose the match by just three runs and the call from the leg umpire indeed turned out to be a decisive factor. In the post-match talk, the star All-rounder was furious at the umpire and criticized him for the decision.

‘Umpire isn’t suited to international cricket, would be much better if he did another job’ – Wanindu Hasaranga

The Sri Lankan skipper claimed that things like it should not happen at the highest level. He claimed that the ball was not even close to the waist-high to be considered as a benefit of the doubt and felt that it would have hit the head of the batter if it was delivered at a slightly higher trajectory. The skipper of Sri Lanka felt that the umpire was not fit for his job.

“If you can’t see that, that umpire isn’t suited to international cricket. It would be much better if he did another job,” said the star player in his statement. The leg-spinner then urged the Apex Board to bring back the province where the captains could challenge the on-field decisions of the umpires.

Here’s what Shubman Gill has to say when asked about missing MS Dhoni

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill had an animated reply to a question asked about MS Dhoni. When asked if he and the Indian team miss the star batter, Gill claimed in a low voice that everyone in the team and fact in entire India misses the former Indian skipper. He felt that no matter where India plays, the former Indian wicketkeeper batter will be missed genuinely.

“The entire India misses Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). It does not matter where we play, in Ranchi or anywhere in the world,” said Gill when asked about the CSK skipper. Gill was in the press conference ahead of the fourth Test between India and England. The youngster was asked a lot of questions about his form and the confidence he gained in the last two Tests.

Gill has been in good form in the ongoing series. The right-handed batter has adapted well to the number 3 position after failing to perform in the first Test. In the 2nd Test, the star batter scored 35 runs in the first innings and a much-required hundred in the second innings. At Vizag, Gill helped India to claim a crucial win against England to level the series 1-1.

Shubman Gill hopes to make the most of his form

When India went to Rajkot for the third Test, Gill did not have the greatest of starts as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the 1st innings. However, the Indian batter proved the critics wrong by scoring 91 runs in the 2nd innings. A big gorilla has been off Gill’s back. The youngster has been away from the criticism after his knock in the last two Tests against England.

He would be hoping to continue the form in the fourth Test which is set to take place in Ranchi. The city is the birthplace of Dhoni, the former Indian cricketer, who was instrumental in India winning the T20 WC 2007, the ODI WC 2011, and the Champions Trophy 2013 as a skipper. Gill will be in action against Dhoni later this year as the skipper of GT in the IPL 2024.

Is Shreyas Iyer really injured? Latest report has something else to say!

Shreyas Iyer

The latest report on Shreyas Iyer has shocked the fans to the core. The star batter was deemed unfit to play the last three Tests against England as he was declared injured after the 2nd Test in Vizag. The star batter reportedly had a groin injury and stiff back as per the statement of the Indian Cricket Board. He was hence released from the Indian squad.

As per the protocols, the star batter was sent back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to recover soon. However, the latest report has claimed that the NCA did not report any injury from the right-handed batter. It is being claimed that the physios and other officials in the NCA have deemed Iyer to be as fit as ever.

The news has raised a lot of doubts amongst the followers of the Indian team. Iyer has been going through a rough patch with the bat in the longest format of the game for months now. He last hit a hundred in 2022 and has not been able to score even a fifty in a long time. While that is a matter of concern, the fans are worried about something else.

Has the Indian management faked Shreyas Iyer’s injury?

After the latest report, the fans are wondering if the Indian management deliberately declared him injured to get him replaced by someone else in the squad. At this point, the fans are claiming that the Indian Cricket Board does not have the confidence to declare their players to be dropped. Even in the past, India declared players injured to the doubts of the fans.

It is worth wondering if Iyer is actually injured. As per many reports, he was dropped from the team. It is claimed that he was not declared ‘Dropped’ to not be criticized by the fans of the batter. While nothing has been official yet, if what reports claim is to be believed, it might be a serious dent in the confidence of Iyer, who needs the backing of the management in tough times.
