‘Yeh toh inka roz ka hai’ – Fans react as England plan on talking to Ben Stokes to come back from retirement for ODI World Cup 2023

Ben Stokes, England

The ODI World Cup 2023 will take place in India from October 5 to November 19. England and New Zealand are set to clash in the opener in a rematch of the previous edition’s final. The opener will take place in the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The same venue will also host the marquee clashes with India and Pakistan, England and Australia, and also the final of the mega event.

England’s title defense, therefore, begins on October 5. As such, there’s been a big update on England’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2023. Ben Stokes, England’s red-ball captain who stays retired from the limited-overs game will be requested by the English management to come back from retirement to play in the marquee event.

‘No clear direction on what he’s going to do’ – Matthew Mott on Ben Stokes

“Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben Stokes is fairly forthright with all of us. We’ll check on his interest,” England’s limited-overs coach Matthew Mott was quoted as saying to the Daily Mail Sport. “There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I’ve always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field. Watching him throughout the whole Ashes series, he had such a great presence. He’s done it for years when it comes to performing in one-day cricket and so he’s an invaluable commodity,” he added.

There were other news surrounding the squad updates as well. Firstly, it was decided that current skipper Jos Buttler would be talking to Ben Stokes himself. Secondly, England are keen on having Jofra Archer available for the big tournament. Therefore, a thorough medical examination will be done for the pacer. Once the reports of the same are available, England are planning to pick their squad for ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday, August 15. Therefore, an announcement could be expected between Tuesday and Wednesday.

His inability to accelerate scoring when required drew ire from fans and analysts alike, with many questioning his intent and decision-making under pressure.

While Rizwan’s cautious approach ensured some stability, it proved inadequate against South Africa’s aggressive game plan. His inability to shift gears in critical moments ultimately hurt Pakistan’s chances, and his performance sparked a broader debate about his role and strategy in the team’s batting order. Some commentators were particularly scathing, questioning how Rizwan could reflect on his effort given the circumstances.

The incident has added to the scrutiny of Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament, with many demanding better strategies and execution from key players.
