‘Ye bhi sahi hai’ – Fans react to Rehan Ahmed’s interesting take on maiden overs in Test cricket
Rehan Ahmed has a controversial take on maiden overs in Test cricket. The youngster has opened up on his style of bowling in Tests. The right-arm leg spinner claimed that bowling maiden overs is a boring job. He felt that change-ups are better than bowling maidens in the longest format of the game. Rehan has appreciated the backing he has got.
The leg spinner claimed the leadership in England to be good. He added that the people in the management do not worry about his style of bowling. “I don’t like bowling maidens. I think that’s just boring. I’ll try and change things. The leadership and the backup we have, have been very good. They just don’t care about how bad things can go, it’s always about what good you can get out of it,” said Ahmed.
He then added that bowling four bad balls and backing them up with a peach to get the batter is a better option than bowling a lot of dot balls in a row. “If I bowl four bad balls and get a wicket, that’s better than bowling 16 good balls in a row. I think that says more about the team and how comfortable I feel with this team,” added Rehan in his statement.
Bowling version of ‘Bazball’
The statement of the young spinner has not gone well with the fans. There has been widespread criticism of the statement of the spinner. However, it is worth noting that the way Ahmed thinks about his bowling is highly influenced by ‘Bazball’. It is kind of an aggressive approach with the ball to claim wickets as soon as possible.
In batting, the approach of England has been to look for runs under the leadership of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. In the ongoing series, Ahmed has not had a bigger role with the ball, although he has looked threatening to get wickets whenever he got the opportunity to have a go at the batters. He has been handy with the bat lower down the order.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the statement of Rehan Ahmed –

Love the attacking intent, Rehan! Taking wickets is what matters most & your confidence is refreshing. Keep pushing the boundaries!

That’s more sensible 👍, because in test matches, you can not win until take all 20 Wickets in both innings.
— Faisal Jahangeer (@FaisalJahange15) February 9, 2024
Is this sustainable in the long run? Building pressure & bowling maidens have their place too. Remember, patience is a virtue in Test cricket.🤔🤔🤔🤭
— Muhammad tahir (@M_tahir_786) February 9, 2024
Only if u bowl 16 no run balls you get that wicket in next 4 balls🤣🤣
