‘Aadhe time toh injured hi rehta hai’ – Fans react as Shreyas Iyer likely to sit out of last three Tests against England due to stiff back and groin pain

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer might miss out on playing the last three Tests against England. The star cricketer is reported to have sustained a major injury. Due to stiff back and groin pain, Iyer is likely to make way for KL Rahul, who is set to return to the team for the third Test. The middle-order batter would be disappointed if what reports claim is to be true.

In the last 15 months or so, Iyer has not been at his best with the bat in Tests. His last match-winning knock in Tests came against Bangladesh in 2022, the last series which featured Rishabh Pant in the playing XI. Since then, Iyer has been finding it difficult to score runs in the middle. Injuries have not helped the star batter either.

Right before the IPL 2023, Iyer sustained an injury and got ruled out of the entire IPL and the WTC final. He returned to the Indian side in September 2023 and had a brilliant knock with the bat in the ODI WC 2023. But Iyer’s numbers in Test cricket have been a concern for the Indian management. KL Rahul is likely to replace him in the XI in the fourth Test.

KL Rahul to replace Shreyas Iyer

The fans believe that Iyer is not injured and that it is a made-up story from the Indian Cricket Board to get Rahul back in the XI. They argue that Iyer was fit during the match in the second Test. His form and the injuries are likely to play a key role in the team combination for the rest of the series against England.

While nothing has been official as of now, it seems like Iyer might not feature in the last three Tests. Rajat Patidar is likely to be backed for one more Test, given the fact that he has just made his Test debut. With Virat Kohli being unlikely to return to the side, it makes the task difficult for the Indian side to win the third Test match at Rajkot against England.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the news:

Amelia Kerr’s All round show and Shabnim Ismail’s terrific spell helps MI women to edge out Gujarat Giants women by 5 wickets in WPL 2024

Mumbai Indians women (MI W) continued their winning streak in the WPL 2024. The defending champions had a relatively easier challenge as compared to DC women when they took on Gujarat Giants women at M Chinnaswamy stadium. Right from the toss, everything went right for MI women. In the end, they registered a 5-wicket win and continued their streak of winning games in run chases.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field first. Her decision was proven right as Shabnim Ismail bowled a dream spell with the new ball. Within the PP overs, the experienced pacer claimed two wickets, including that of Veda Krishnamurthy and Harleen Doel. She later dismissed Beth Mooney for 24(22) as MI women were all over the Giants.

E Bryce and Tanuja Kanwar tried to revive the innings if the Giants. However, the lack of contribution from the proper batters did not help them. While Bryce scored 25(24), Kanwar hit 28(21) and emerged as the star performer. Amelia Kerr did the clean-up job and got rid of the tailenders quickly. Her 4/17 and Ismail’s 3/18 helped the MI women to restrict the Giants to just 126 runs. On a wicket like Bengaluru, it was not going to be enough.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr guide MI women to win

Chasing the total, MI women lost the wickets of their reliable openers early. The duo of Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews could not step up. It led to the recovery phase where Nat Sciver Brunt and Kaur framed a good partnership. It consolidated the innings of MI women. After claiming 1/14 with the ball, Sciver scored 22(18) before getting perished. Amelia Kerr then joined Kaur.

The duo batted well in the middle. They were helped by some poor bowling from the Giants, who conceded a lot of extras. While Harmanpreet Kaur scored an unbeaten 46*(41), Kerr hit 31(25). The duo ensured that MI women were in the run chase throughout. For Giants, Tanuja Kanwar was the star in the bowling as well. She claimed 2/21 in her four overs, which was not enough for Giants. MI women won by 5 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

England's Barmy Army

England’s Barmy Army cried over the dismissal of Joe Root during the 2nd innings of the 4th Test in Ranchi. The match between India and England witnessed a lot of umpire calls which have been a center of discussion. As Root got dismissed in a rather clean way as per the technology, the admin of England’s Barmy Army could not hold back his opinion.

England’s Barmy Army’s handle posted an image of the dismissal of Joe Root. The admin posted a shocking emoji along with the dismissal. It was a very good ball from Kuldeep Yadav who got the ball to hit right inside the line and the impact of the ball was right in line. Even the wickets were hitting upon checking the dismissal by the third umpires.

Instead of accepting the dismissal, the fans of England started crying about it, when in actuality, it was the Indian fans who were disappointed the most with the umpire’s calls which were an unfortunate barrier for them in the first innings. In fact, Root himself survived a close call in the first innings and went on to score an unbeaten hundred. But back then, the fans of England did not seem to have any problems.

Not the first instance from England’s Barmy Army

The fans took to the comment section of the post of England’s Barmy Army and questioned their hypocrisy. The Indian fans pointed out that Root survived a close call, and four decisions of umpires’ call were in England’s favour in the Test. It is not new that the handle of England’s Barmy Army has commented foul or cried over such incidents, especially against India.

When Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck in the ODI World Cup 2023, England trolled him, only to get a reply from the Indian fans who brutally trolled them back. During the Ashes 2023, England’s Barmy Army had a go at the Australians for the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the 2nd innings of the Lord’s Test and invoked the ‘Spirit of cricket’ argument to cover the dismissal.
