Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri committed a huge blunder in the commentary box during the match between India and England in Rajkot. The former Indian cricketer claimed Sarfaraz Khan’s wife to be his mother. The statement of Shastri had mixed opinions from the fans. While some took the funny side of the incident, others criticized Shastri for the lack of information regarding the topic.

“His father, his mother watching the young man bat,” said Shastri on air as he saw the family of Sarfaraz Khan in attendance during his Test debut. Sarfaraz got his Test cap from Anil Kumble and made him proud by scoring 62(66). An unfortunate runout led to his downfall. But the knock impressed everyone. The family of Sarfaraz was shocked to see his dismissal.

It is worth noting that Sarfaraz married in August last year. For a long time, Sarfaraz was struggling to make his Indian debut. However, the chance finally came as Virat Kohli was unavailable and KL Rahul was not fully fit to play the Test. The family of Sarfaraz was proud to see him get the Test cap. Naushad Khan, his father, got emotional and lived the moment.

Commentators astonished at Sarfaraz Khan’s domestic numbers

During the match, Sarfaraz’s numbers in domestic cricket in the last few years were displayed. The commentators spoke about it and went mad. Swann described Sarfaraz’s numbers in domestic cricket as ‘Absolutely bonkers’. “This lad has been making a lot of runs, make no mistake about it. Look at that, an average of 154 in the Ranji Trophy. Phew. Some of those numbers are absolutely bonkers,” Graeme Swann said.

Sarfaraz has a batting average of 154 in the last 2-3 seasons, which is astonishing. Shastri claimed Khan had been knocking on the doors of the selectors for a long time. “He’s been banging at the door for some time. Waiting for the selectors to look at those scores and give him an entry, which he has got,” said the former Indian coach. Sarfaraz would be looking to make an impact in the 2nd innings.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
