Pakistan has always been blessed in terms of fast bowlers from the ‘Sultan of Swing’ Wasim Akram to the latest sensation Shaheen Afridi, the country has seen exceptional pace bowling talent. One such talent is Haris Rauf currently playing in ‘The Hundred’. His inspiring journey from playing tennis ball cricket to being one of the premier white ball pacers in the game has touched millions of cricket enthusiasts. He recently attracted the attention of India’s cricketer-turned-commentator and expert Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik, who was on broadcasting duties in the sidelines of ‘The Hundred’ called Rauf one of the ‘better white bowlers’ in the game right now. “Few years ago, he was playing tennis ball cricket. Gets picked up by the Qalandars, becomes a part of their team, and academy, and then goes on to play the league and then has obviously gone on to do so well for Pakistan. He is arguably one of the better white ball bowlers going around in world cricket now, especially at the death,” Karthik said on Sky Sports.
Haris Rauf will be expected to be a part of ODI World Cup 2023
Rauf gained prominence with his stint with the Lahore Qalandars in the Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy in 2018. He made his international debut for Pakistan in 2020 and has become a mainstay for Pakistan in the white-ball formats. He has represented the national team in 62 T20Is and claimed 83 wickets at an average of 21.71. Rauf used to manage his studies and a part-time job as a salesman along with his cricket before Lahore Qalandars selected him for the squad. This was the big turning point for Rauf’s career.
He is expected to be a part of the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in October-November. Alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, he will form one of the deadliest pace-bowling trios of modern times. Notably, he bowled a 159 kmph delivery against England in the T20 World Cup which was the fastest delivery of the tournament. The Pakistani pace bowling was of the highest order which helped the team stay alive despite the sub-par batting. The same would be expected in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
