Nasser Hussain made a huge statement on Virat Kohli winning the ODI Cricketer of the Year award for 2023. The former England skipper felt that Virat was an obvious candidate to win the award given how he was as a batter in the year. Kohli was brilliant in both the bilateral series and the big tournaments like the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup (WC) 2023 as a batter.

Virat even rolled his arms over in some of the matches. In the ODI WC 2023, Virat bowled a few overs against teams like the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and so on. Nasser felt that the decision to pick Kohli was a no brainer and added that Virat had a fantastic year in 2023 in the ODIs. Hussain praised Virat’s performance in the bilateral series and the ODI WC in 2023.

“No Brainer that Virat Kohli won the ODI Cricketer of the Year – what a year he had, the way he played throughout the year & in the World Cup is absolutely phenomenal,” said Hussain while speaking about the performance of the star batter in ODIs in the year. Hussain claimed that no other player deserved to win the award more than the Indian number 3.

Virat Kohli’s performance in 2023 in ODIs

Virat was brilliant with the bat in 2023. The 35-year-old scored 1377 runs in ODIs at a batting average of 72.47, at a batting SR of over 99 in the year. He played great knocks in the year as a batter and broke several milestones. In the process, the star cricketer won the ODI Cricketer of the Year for the record 4th time, the most for a player in the format.

In the ODI WC 2023, Virat was better. The Indian number three scored 765 runs in 11 innings at a batting average of over 99, at a batting SR of over 90, including three hundreds and six fifty-plus scores. The right-handed batter became the player with the most hundreds in ODIs and set a new record for the batter with the most runs in a single edition of an ODI WC in the process and made the fans proud.
