‘Klaasen knew about rain’ – Fans react as Durban Super Giants beat MICT by 11 runs via DLS method in anticlimatic way
Durban Super Giants started their campaign on a good note as they beat MICT in their first game. After the inaugural match of the season saw no play due to the interruption of rain, the second match of the season saw plenty of action. MICT dominated it in the first innings, but DSG had a very good second half. A collective team effort helped them to claim the win.
With the bat, Ryan Rickleton was the star of the show. With Rassie Van Der Dussen struggling at the other end, Rickleton took the onus on himself and paced a fast innings. The Southpaw got to his fifty in just 24 balls and helped Durban to post a good total in the first few overs. The dismissal of Rassie ensured a mini-collapse. From 82/1 at one stage, MICT collapsed to 128/3.
However, Rickleton continued and played a good knock. In his stay in the middle, the talented batter scored 87 runs in 51 balls, which included 6 fours and sixes each. The impetus towards the end was provided by the skipper Kieron Pollard who scored 31 runs in just 14 balls. The experienced batter helped MICT to get to a total of 207 runs on the board.
Heinrich Klaasen stars in the big run chase
Chasing the target, MICT pacers were on fire at the top. Kagiso Rabada dismissed the big fish Quinton De Kock for just 5 runs. Beuran Hendricks got the wicket of Wiaan Mulder. Keemo Paul joined Matthew Breetzke and steadied the innings of Durban. Olly Stone broke the partnership. In walked Heinrich Klaasen and started to take the match away from MICT. The star batter framed a very good partnership with Breetzke.
The latter scored 39 runs in 24 balls and perished. Klaasen then waged a lone war. The WK batter was at his best and smashed the bowlers for fun in the middle overs. It brought the home side back into the game. His 85(35) included 4 fours and 8 sixes. Kagiso picked the big wicket and MICT were back in the game. In an anticlimactic way, DSG won the match by 11 runs due to the DLS method.
