Stuart Broad and Shaheen Afridi

Stuart Broad, one of the finest English pacers ever, recently announced his retirement from the game. Another fine young pacer is currently in the United Kingdom playing in the 100-ball tournament called ‘The Hundred’. Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi has garnered a lot of praise wherever he has gone. He is currently playing for the ‘Welsh Fire’ and received a lot of praise from pace great Broad.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi is one of my favourite bowlers to watch in the world. He has got such a great presence about him when he runs in, and I love bowlers run in with energy and vibrancy to their run-up,” Broad was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.

“He has got such a natural skill – the way that ball swings back into the right-handers is such a pleasure to watch. And he represented the Notts Outlaws this summer, which is close to my heart. He’s one of the bowlers I admire hugely, and I want to see him do well,” he added.

‘Hasn’t sunk in that I won’t bowl another ball’ – Stuart Broad on being retired

Talking of Stuart Broad, he announced his retirement from cricket after the conclusion of Ashes 2023. The five-Test series ended in a draw at 2-2 with the fourth Test at Manchester ending in a draw after being washed out by rain. This meant that Australia successfully retained the Ashes urn for the fourth consecutive time. However, the hosts restricted them from winning their first Test series on English soil since 2001.

However, Broad opened up in his latest interaction with Sky Sports mentioning how he felt in the first few days of being retired. “It probably hasn’t sunk in that I won’t bowl another ball or hit another ball. I wanted to…finish at the top and Ashes cricket feels like the top for me. I just feel really proud of being able to play for England as long as I have. Probably towards the end of Old Trafford, I started to think ‘The last Test is next week, where should I go?” he said.
