CPL 2021: Guyana pip Trinbago in thriller

Published

on

In one of the most exciting matches of this season’s Caribbean Premier League, Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Trinbago Knight Riders in the super over.

Chasing 139, the Warriors just couldn’t seem to get going.

On the last ball with scores tied, Udana ran Imran Tahir out to ensure that the match goes to super over.

In the super over, Sunil Narine gave the Riders hope after bowling out both the Warriors’ batsmen in five balls.

Requiring just 7 runs to win, up stepped Siefert.

The Warriors bowler gave away just four runs in the over to ensure that his team gets over the line.

Late heroics by Udana

Trinbago couldn’t have started any worse as Lendl Simmons got bowled by Chanderpaul Hemraj on his first ball.

That set the tone for the rest of the game because Munro, Narine, and Webster all struggled to accelerate on the current run rate.

Even though Munro scored 32 runs off 28 balls, he registered the most dot balls out of anyone in his side.

This inconsistency resembled throughout the innings as the Riders struggled to rotate the strike and had to hit boundaries to get the scoreboard ticking.

Despite having a great season until now, Kieron Pollard had a night to forget.

The Riders captain could only score 13 runs off 17 balls.

Udana’s late heroics salvaged something for the Riders as he scored a quick 21 off 9 balls to guide his side to a decent total.

The Warriors required 139 runs to win.

Rampaul masterclass leads to super over

The pitch suited the bowlers, and Ravi Rampaul took full advantage.

The West Indian seamer continued his prolific wicket-taking form as he grabbed another four wickers to break the spine of the Warriors.

Mohammad Hafeez had one of his worst batting experiences in any form of cricket as he could only score 16 runs in 30 balls.

The veteran Pakistani batsman just couldn’t seem to get going as he got beaten time and time again by seamers and spinners.

Hafeez fell to Kharry Pierre.

Hetmeyer and Pooran both scored 27 runs each to ensure that the match goes to the final over.

On the final ball, Udana ran Imran Tahir out to ensure that the match gets decided in the super over.

Seifert clinches it for the Warriors

Sunil Narine bowled the super over for the Riders.

Pollard couldn’t have expected any more from his former international teammate as he bowled out both the Warriors batsmen in five balls.

Firstly, he got the wicket of Pooran who skied the ball straight into the hands of the fielder at long-off.

On the fifth ball, Narine got the wicket Hetmyer as he edged the ball into Ramdin’s hands.

Trinbago Knight Riders required just 7 runs to win the match.

Defending just six runs, Seifert had a huge responsibility on his shoulders, and boy did he came up with the goods.

On the first ball, he got the prized scalp of Kieron Pollard.

The rest of his 5 balls went for just 4 runs as he displayed a fantastic show of death-bowling to get the Warriors over the line.
