EPL: Liverpool beat Brighton, Salah scores again

Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win against Brighton at the Amex Stadium to stay in close pursuit to table toppers Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are now only three points away from the Citizens after 28 rounds of games.

Brighton, on the other hand, remain 12 points clear of the drop zone, despite suffering five successive defeats.

The Seagulls started the game remarkably well, but the visitors proved too hot for them to handle.

It took only 19 minutes for Liverpool to pick the lock of the Brighton defence.

Luis Diaz heads it in

Joel Matip drifted a fantastic ball towards Luis Diaz, who headed the ball past an onrushing Robert Sanchez.

The Brighton shot-stopper should deem himself lucky to stay on the pitch after his reckless challenge on the new Liverpool signing. The VAR had a close look at the incident, but in the end, Sanchez escaped a booking.

Mohamed Salah could have put Liverpool 2-0 before halftime, but the Egyptian’s attempt lacked the ferocity to beat Sanchez at the Brighton goal.

Leandro Trossard could have drawn the scores level right after the restart.

But, he agonizingly watched on as his shot sailed over the crossbar. A mistake that would prove costly soon afterward.

Salah makes it 2-0

Salah might have felt it was not his day, when he saw his goal bound shot taking a deflection and hitting the woodwork. But, minutes later he got the ultimate opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet.

Naby Keita’s shot caught Yves Bissouma’s hand in an unnatural position inside the penalty area.

Salah extended Liverpool’s lead from the resulting penalty. It was Salah’s 20th Premier League this season.

The mercurial forward has hit that mark in four out of five seasons at Liverpool.

Brighton stepped up their efforts in the last quarter of an hour.

Danny Welbeck made Alisson Becker pull off an excellent save, but the home side failed to find the opposition’s net for the fourth time in their last five Premier League matches.
