North Zone and East Zone are currently clashing against each other in the 7th match of the ongoing Deodhar Trophy at the Cricket Association Puducherry Ground 3 in Puducherry. The fans witnessed a brilliant batting performance from the middle-order batters of East Zone.

Meanwhile, East Zone’s allrounder and Rajasthan Royals star Riyan Parag smashed his 4th List A ton. Parag played an outstanding knock of 131 runs off just 102 balls which included 5 fours and 11 sixes. This might be Parag’s best knock ever of his career as the century came after the horrible collapse of East Zone’s top-order.

Talking about the match, East Zone won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision backfired them as they lost their five batters on the score of just 57 runs after 16 overs. North Zone pacers destroyed their top order completely and at one stage it looked like East Zone won’t be able to cross even the 100-run mark.

Brilliant comeback by East Zone

However, Parag and Kumar Kushagra had different things on their mind as they both stitched a magnificent 235-run stand for the 6th wicket and turned the match completely into East Zone favour from nowhere. North Zone bowlers had no clue what was happening as both the batters were scoring boundaries quite easily.

Parag managed to hit his century but Kushagra missed the milestone by just 2 runs. However, his 98-run knock came off just 87 deliveries which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. It also helped East Zone to cross the 300-run mark and quick cameos from Shahbaz Ahmed and Manisankar Murasingh helped the team to achieve a monumental total of 337 runs in the first innings.

North Zone bowlers were bowling great initially but as soon as the Parag and Kushagra’s partnership evolved, the opponents started losing their rhythm. However, still some bowlers managed to perform well as Mayank Yadav and Harshit Rana took 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Yadav conceded 63 runs in his 10 overs quota while Rana leaked 54 runs in 9 overs.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
