Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon has congratulated Ravichandran Ashwin on claiming 500 Test wickets. Lyon posted a video of his ‘mate’ and gave a huge thumbs up for unlocking the new milestone in his illustrious career. “Hi Ash, just want to say a massive congratulations on taking 500 Test match wickets,” said Lyon in his video. The fans shared the video of Lyon across social media platforms.

By getting rid of Zack Crawley in the first innings of the third Test against England in Rajkot, Ashwin became the 2nd Indian bowler to claim 500 Test wickets. Ashwin became the second fastest spinner in terms of innings to reach the milestone. It was a special moment for the Indian spinner who did not celebrate much. The Australian spinner himself claimed 500 Test wickets last year in the series against Pakistan in December.

It is worth noting that both made their Test debut in 2011 and have similar number of wickets in the longest format of the game. Lyon added that the journey of Ashwin has been incredible. Lyon praised the skill level of Ashwin and mentioned his respect. “It has been an incredible journey to watch. I have nothing but respect for you the way you’ve gone about it and your skill level,” added the off spinner.

It has been amazing to be competing against you but also learn from you’ – Nathan Lyon

While both share a rivalry on the field, they have an immense respect for each other off the field. In an interview recently, Lyon had claimed to have learnt a lot of things from the Indian spinner. In his congratulatory message for the star spinner, he revealed the same. Lyon concluded saying there is a lot more to come for the Rajasthan Royals spinner.

“It has been amazing to be competing against you but also learn from you. So, mate, congratulations and plenty more to come,” Lyon added. Like the Australian spinner, many others also wished Ashwin on his achievement. The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to X and posted a message. Likewise, Dwayne Bravo and Dinesh Karthik also wished their former teammates.
