WATCH: Miscommunication leads to run out as Rohit Sharma gets angry over Shubman Gill for his dismissal against Afghanistan in 1st T20I

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma did not have a great comeback in T20Is. the star batter got an opportunity to play his first innings with the bat in T20Is since the semifinal game against England in the T20 WC 2022. Rohit was unfortunate as he was dismissed for a silver duck against Afghanistan. The star batter was angry with Shubman Gill as he was dismissed via run out.

Opting to bowl first, India restricted Afghanistan to a total of just 158 runs. Axar Patel was the star of the show as he claimed 2 wickets. 159 was not going to be difficult for India, considering the dew factor and the lack of runs on board. But Rohit continued to bat with intent in limited-overs cricket. Right from the word go, the Indian captain tried to attack the bowlers.

Watch the video of the dismissal here –

Fazalhaq Farooqi opened the innings for Afghanistan with the ball. The left-arm pacer aimed to get rid of the star batter. In the second ball of the match, Rohit stepped out of the crease and tried to hit the ball over the mid-off fielder. There was no proper connection behind the shot. Rohit did not get the required elevation and ended up hitting the ball straight to the fielder.

Lack of communication between the openers

The fielder slightly lacked the concentration to collect the ball quickly. The 36-year-old, who had already stepped out of the crease, began to run towards the non-striker’s end. Rohit did not look at Gill, who was seeing the motion of the ball and did not even look at Rohit. But the Indian captain had decided to run towards the non-striker’s end, only to not see the reciprocation from Gill.

There was probably a run there given the misfield from the fielder. But Gill’s concentration on the ball meant that Rohit had to lose his wicket. The Indian opener was furious at Gill. As he was dismissed, he was angry at Gill and tried to let him know that there was a single and he did not look at the Indian star batter. Gill was disappointed at the dismissal as well.
