Pakistan star wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan carried his brilliant form in the 12th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 against India. Rizwan smashed a brilliant century against Sri Lanka and played an amazing unbeaten knock of 131 runs. Despite playing well against India, Rizwan failed to achieve his well-deserved half-century.

In runsdia’s premium pacer Jasprti Bumrah came to bowl in the 34th over and bowled a good length delivery outside off, an off-cutting slower ball and it spun back in off the deck very sharply. Rizwan was done by the lack of pace first and it cut back in to go past the inside edge before slamming into the top of the off-stump. He was left stunned after the delivery went inside while the fans at the stadium started celebrating as it was a big wicket of them.

Mohammad Rizwan is currently the leading run-scorer in ODI World Cup 2023

Talking about his innings, the wicketkeeper-batter came to bat at number 4 position after India’s star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, took the important wicket of Imam-ul-Haq, who was caught by KL Rahul behind the stumps. The experienced player got a second chance early in the innings when an LBW decision was overturned.

Rizwan was given out on the field after being hit on the leg pads. However, he decided to review the decision after consulting with his captain, Babar Azam. Video replays revealed that the ball was heading down the leg side, saving Rizwan’s wicket.

Rizwan continued to bat and built a partnership of 81 runs with Babar, who managed to score a half-century before Mohammed Siraj dismissed him. Even after losing his captain, Rizwan didn’t give up. But just as he was approaching a fifty, Jasprit Bumrah got him out on 49 runs. Rizwan is currently the leading run-scorer in the 2023 World Cup, surpassing Devon Conway with his impressive innings against Rohit Sharma’s team.

Following India’s heavy loss to Australia in the first Test of the series, Australian media highlighted key concerns for the Indian team, including Rohit Sharma’s performance as captain. Pat Cummins and his team’s emphatic win by 209 runs sparked discussions about India’s bowling strategy and batting collapse.

Australian newspapers like The Age underscored Mitchell Starc’s lethal bowling display as a stark reminder of his prowess in Test cricket. Starc’s fiery spell dismantled India’s top order, a performance seen as pivotal in Australia’s dominant victory. The media also pointed out the pressure mounting on Rohit Sharma for tactical shortcomings, including field placements and decision-making under challenging circumstances.

India’s batting lineup faltered against Australia’s aggressive bowling, with only a few players resisting. Critics emphasized that the Indian team’s inability to adapt to the pink-ball conditions in Adelaide cost them dearly. The media also praised Australia for its disciplined approach, particularly the consistency of its pace attack, which Starc and Cummins led.

As the series progresses, this defeat puts India under immense pressure to bounce back, especially with the spotlight on Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s resilience. Fans now await India’s response in the next Test.
