Tsitsipas upset in Madrid Open
Casper Rudd caused the biggest upset of the day by ousting the World No. 5 from Greece, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
With Medvedev also getting knocked out by Chilean Cristian Garin, the bottom half of the draw is up for grabs and Ruud will look to build on his performance and get to a 1st ATP final.
Casper Ruud is a formidable opponent on clay and Tsitsipas found it hard to overcome him during the few decisive moments of the match.

This proved to be the only break of the match as Rudd went to win 6-4.
Tsitsipas was the No. 3 seed in the tournament and with this win, Rudd can be considered as one of the favourites to win this tournament.

Popyrin had 3 breakpoints in the 2nd game, but Nadal upped his game at the key moments and prevented a break of serve. He then quickly broke twice to take a 4-1 lead.
Popyrin got a break back, but Nadal nipped all comeback attempts in the bud.
The No. 1 seed hit peak form in the 2nd set and finished off the match to book his 15th quarter-final berth in the Mutua Madrid Open.
Barty and Sabalenka enter final
The WTA No. 1, Ashleigh Barty continued her spell of form on the red clay with another winning display.
Australian Barty, who won the Stuttgart Open before coming to Madrid, used her slice shots to devastating effect to dismantle Spaniard, Paula Badosa.
In the 1st set, the game was neck-to-neck till Badosa was broken when the score was 4-5.
The loss of the 1st set spurred Badosa and she broke Barty in the 1st game of the 2nd set.
However, Barty fought back strongly and won 4 games in a row.
The final score was 6-4 6-3.
In the 2nd Semi-final,
In the 2nd Semi-final, Aryna Sabalenka overcame unseeded Russian, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2 6-3.
Sabalenka looked in a hurry to finish the match as she swept away Pavlyuchenkova in just above an hour, dropping only 5 games.

I must say I’ve created a lot of memories alongside Rohitt and several of my teammates,” Ashwin said at the press conference.
“Obviously, there are a lot of people to thank. But, I would be failing in my duty if I didn’t thank the BCCI and the rest of my teammates. I want to name a few of them and all the coaches — Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya, and Pujara who have taken all those catches in the slips to help me get those wickets.”
Ashwin also thanked the Australian cricket team for being fierce competitors over the years.
“Also a big thank you to the Australian cricket team. They have been very fierce competitors. I have enjoyed playing alongside them.
“I won’t be taking any questions, but certainly, it’s a very emotional moment.”

India’s WTC Final Chances Hinge on Brisbane Test as Rain Threatens
India’s WTC Final chances are at risk as rain continues to affect the Brisbane Test against Australia. With the ICC World Test Championship qualification at stake, this match plays a pivotal role in deciding India’s pathway to the final. Rain interruptions have hindered Australia’s push to enforce the follow-on, giving India a potential lifeline.
Australia took an early lead in the match, showcasing dominant performances with both bat and ball. However, persistent rainfall has disrupted their plans to finish the game strongly. For India, the inclement weather has provided a much-needed opportunity to recover and aim for a draw, which is crucial for keeping their WTC hopes alive.
Currently, Australia sits comfortably at the top of the WTC standings (India’s WTC Final chances), while India faces mounting pressure to secure crucial points. Analysts have pointed out that India’s first-innings batting collapse has only made their road to the final tougher. A draw in Brisbane would offer India some relief, but subsequent matches will demand consistent victories to secure a spot in the WTC Final.
As rain continues to impact the game, both teams face uncertainty, with the result holding significant implications for the WTC standings. Fans eagerly await the resolution of this rain-affected clash.
