This move was expected as Rohit Sharma is already 36-years-old and wants to have a prolonged career. Rohit Sharma hasn’t played any T20 Cricket for India since the 2022 World Cup in Australia.

India’s next assignment is against Australia where the men in blue will play 5 T20 matches starting on Thursday. Suryakumar Yadav is leading the side in place of Hardik Pandya who is yet to recover from his injury.

Rohit Sharma is no longer part of the T20 setup –

As per reports in the PTI, Rohit Sharma has told the Indian selectors not to select him for the T20 team. This decision was conveyed to Ajit Agarkar, who is the head of the Indian selection committee.

A source from the Indian Cricket Board told PTI “It is not a new development. Rohit hasn’t played any T20Is in past one year as the focus was on ODI World Cup. He had extensive discussions with chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar in this regard. He has himself volunteered to stay away from T20Is. It has completely been Rohit’s call,”

There is still hope for Rohit Sharma fans as the board has indicated its willingness to ask the 36-year-old to reconsider this decision. According to the indication given, if the youngster fails to perform at the top Rohit will be asked to make a comeback to the T20 side.

India will take part in the T20 World Cup to be played in June next year in West Indies and the USA. The Indian Board is likely to look at a new skipper since Hardik Pandya has been prone to injuries in recent times.

Earlier in the day it was reported that Rohit Sharma is set to meet with the Indian Cricket Board to map out his future. India will be playing lots of T20 matches and test matches in the coming year. It is expected that Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India in the Test Matches and ODI formats for the next few years to come.
