India began well during the first Test versus England in Hyderabad. At the end of the day the home team ended at 119/1 trailing by just 127 runs. Rohit Sharma was the only wicket down as he was out for 27 runs falling to Jack Leach.

Ahead of the game, Dinesh Karthik spoke to Rohit Sharma in an exclusive conversation on Jio Cinema. The 36-year-old opened up about the pressures of captaincy and how he is handling it.

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India reached two finals in 2023. On both occasions, Rohit Sharma and his side lost to Australia. The first was the World Test Championship loss in June. This was followed by the loss in the ODI World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad heartbreakingly.

Rohit Sharma reveals the pressure of Indian captaincy –

Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik spoke to Rohit Sharma in an exclusive chat on Jio Cinema. The 36-year-old spoke on the various aspects of captaincy that he has seen since taking over the mantle.

“It is quite draining, but that is what you sign up for. When you take the responsibility, I think when the opportunity came to me to lead the team, I was excited. In the last 7-8 years, I’ve been part of that core group decision-making, vice-captain”

Rohit Sharma also mentioned how he had gained captaincy experience whenever Virat Kohli wasn’t around. “I led in Virat‘s absence a few times when he was not there, but yeah, obviously it’s a huge honour to be captaining your country. You know, I have seen many greats who have captained the team stalwarts in their way, so to be alongside them, you know, it’s a great honor. Great privilege”

Speaking about the 2019 ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma spoke about how he was left sad after the tournament. “Numbers are overrated. In India, we do talk a lot about numbers and all of that. But like, yeah, I got five hundred in the 2019 World Cup but kya hua uska, haar gaye na”

Finally stressing on the need for attitude change, Rohit said “I wanted to bring a certain change. Players going out there and playing with a lot of freedom, that statistical side of cricket. I want to completely take it out of this team. People are not looking at numbers. People are not looking at their scores and just play the game”
