‘Revenge is a dish best served cold’ – Fans react as Shreyas Iyer takes revenge by giving back to Ben Stokes after run out in 2nd Test

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer got perfect revenge over Ben Stokes. In the second innings of the 2nd Test against England at Vizag, Iyer recreated the celebration of Stokes in the middle. India marched ahead in the game with the wicket of Stokes, which nearly confirmed the win. After that, the Indian team did not have any challenge to take the remaining wickets to ensure a win.

In the 1st innings, India got a lead of 143 runs, thanks to a brilliant batting performance from Yashasvi Jaiswal and a great bowling spell from Jasprit Bumrah. India found themselves at 31/2 at the start of the 3rd day. They needed a good partnership to be alive in the game. It was exactly provided by the duo Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer scored 28 runs in the 2nd innings before getting dismissed by Tom Hartley. The dismissal was brilliant from England, as it was not easy to claim such catches. Hartley tossed the ball up and asked Iyer to take the aerial route. Iyer fell into the trap of the left-arm orthodox spinner. The ball travelled towards the long-off region. Stokes stationed himself in the mid-off region.

Shreyas Iyer recreates Ben Stokes’ celebration

The English captain had to run 21 meters to get close to the impact of the ball. He did make the run, got close to the ball, and ended up claiming a sensational catch. The effort of Stokes was praised by his teammates. The England skipper celebrated it by showing the index finger and indicating it as a wicket. It probably did not go well with the Indian batter who waited for his turn.

In the 2nd innings, Iyer got an opportunity to return the favour to the English captain. Iyer threw a direct hit towards the stumps and Stokes fell short of the markup. It pleased the Indian fielder who returned this favor to Stokes by recreating the celebration he had over Iyer’s dismissal. India ended up winning the Test match by 106 runs.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the incident –
