‘Life doesn’t stop because…’ Aakash Chopra’s take on Virat Kohli’s absence from Test series against England

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is set to miss his first Test series in 13 years. The news was confirmed after the Indian board announced the squad for the final three games. Akash Deep is the only addition to the Indian squad for the next three games.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra took to his YouTube channel to speak on Kohli’s absence. The 46-year-old said that the show must go on despite the absence of the 35-year-old.

India will play the third Test in Rajkot before the series moves to Ranchi and finishes at Dharamshala. England won the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs to take a 1-0 lead. The home side won the second game in Vizag by 106 runs and squared the series.

Aakash Chopra speaks on Virat Kohli’s absence

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has asked India to move on from Virat Kohli’s absence. The comments were made when the 46-year-old was speaking on his YouTube channel. “I won’t go that far. Let’s be honest, life doesn’t stop because of someone coming or going. Life must go on, the show must go on. India’s batting looked fragile in the first two Tests against a strong English bowling unit. The battle between Kohli and James Anderson is something the fans were waiting for with bated breath.

Aakash Chopra also took a dig at Rehan Ahmed when he said “We are feeling Kohli’s absence a lot, I will be very honest. Considering the bowling standards and the sort of pitch that was there in Vizag and when we got to bat for the first time in Hyderabad, Kohli would have scored at least one 150 in the two matches because he wouldn’t have stopped against this ordinary bowling, in which Rehan Ahmed gets bored.”

England spinner Rehan Ahmed had said that he would rather get hit for four boundaries than get bored. “He said he would rather get hit for four boundaries. Kohli would have hit you for four boundaries and would not have also given you his wicket. Whether it’s Shoaib Bashir, Jack Leach or Tom Hartley, when Virat Kohli sees such a bowling attack, he says he will not score 50-70 but 150-200. That is why he is different from others” Chopra claimed.

Ending his chat on YouTube this is what the former India star said “You are definitely missing him but his absence doesn’t mean that you will lose the series if he isn’t there because you defeated Australia in Australia in his absence. India actually lost in the match he was there, that was the Adelaide Test match, but after that, we broke Gabba’s pride as well”

Mushfiqur Rahim stands firm, cites no regrets on T20I retirement

Rahim has been in great form of late.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the veteran Bangladeshi batsman, has shut down whispers of regret regarding his sudden retirement from T20 Internationals in September 2022. His comments come on the heels of a stellar performance in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, where he’s spearheaded his team, Fortune Barisal, to the finals.

Responding to a journalist’s inquiry about potential regrets, Mushfiqur offered a curt “no,” laced with a hint of defiance. He pointed out the stark contrast in the perception of his abilities, stating, “You are saying this after I played well, no one said that before.” This subtle dig implies that his decision to retire was met with negativity and doubt surrounding his skills.

Further fueling speculation, he posed a thought-provoking question: “Did I retire from T20Is on my own wish? Just look at the month before when I retired in T20s and I don’t have anything else to say.” This statement implies external factors, possibly related to selection or lack of support, might have played a role in his decision. While he remains tight-lipped on specifics, it leaves room for pondering the circumstances that led to his retirement.

Mushfiqur’s recent BPL form has been a stark turnaround from his pre-retirement struggles. He currently sits as the tournament’s fifth-highest run-scorer, amassing 367 runs at a brisk strike rate of 123.56. His unbeaten 47 in the semi-final was instrumental in propelling his team to the finals.

Should Mushfiqur come out of retirement?

This resurgence has sparked a heated debate among fans and analysts. Some see it as a vindication of Mushfiqur’s decision, highlighting his continued potential in the shortest format. Others remain unconvinced, arguing that a single tournament’s performance doesn’t erase the reasons behind his retirement. It’s crucial to consider the context surrounding Mushfiqur’s decision. He had been under fire for his lack of form leading up to the 2022 T20 World Cup. Whether these external pressures directly influenced his retirement remains unclear.

Now, with another T20 World Cup around the corner, there is a belief amongst fans that Rahim should withdraw his retirement. They insist that the high-ups must speak to him in this regard as his form could augur well for the team.

However, Mushfiqur’s unwavering stance on his decision suggests a sense of acceptance and closure. He has chosen to focus on his present form and contributions to the BPL, leaving the T20I chapter behind him. Only time will tell if this decision proves to be the right one for him and the Bangladeshi cricket team in the long run.

Good news for Indian fans as Jasprit Bumrah returns for 5th Test match against England, uncertainty about KL Rahul

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a return in the 5th Test match against England after opting out from the 4th match. Due to workload management, Bumrah was rested in the fourth match. Moreover, before the IPL and the World Cup start, he’ll play one last match in red-ball cricket. While players are missing out on International matches, Bumrah’s dedication and enthusiasm for his nation is an inspiration for the young generation.

Moreover, KL Rahul will officially be missing out on the 5th Test match as well due to a quadricep tendon injury. Although he’s 90% fit, the rest 10% is at stake and the selectors don’t want to take any risk with the player’s health considering the future tournaments. Rahul had played the first Test match in the 5-match series before being injured and missing the entire series.

In the first innings, he had scored 86 runs off 123 balls which helped India reach a score of 436 runs. It was an unfortunate turn of events as Rahul had to miss the entire series due to the injury. Nevertheless, the Indian fans will be happy after receiving the news of Bumrah’s return for the final Test match.

‘I think it was a great Test match’ – Ben Stokes after 4th Test match

Throughout the series, Ben Stokes has been praising his entire team for putting up a great show in the series. After concluding the fourth Test match, Stokes opened up about how proud he was of his team for not giving up any situation and giving a tough fight to the Indians in their backyard.

“I think it was a great Test match. If you see the scoreboard, it’ll say India won by 5 wickets, but it doesn’t give credit to the way things unfolded, the ebbs and flows on every single day it happened. I can only be proud of my team, we’ve had some inexperienced spinners (Bashir and Hartley), but I’m proud of their efforts, they came here without a lot of exposure and the way they kept bowling, I can’t ask for anything more.”

LAH vs PES: Pitch Report

The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, much like some of the other grounds in Pakistan, is renowned for its batting-friendly pitches. The pitch offers minimal assistance to bowlers, resulting in high scores and easy run-chasing. Boundaries are relatively short, further aiding batsmen in accumulating runs quickly. Bowlers need to be disciplined and focus on line and length to restrict runs at this venue. Spinners might find assistance, albeit limited, while pacers may struggle as there is hardly any movement on offer.
