Kartik Aaryan is one of the hottest Bollywood superstars after the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.
Naturally, every new signing by Kartik is closely watched by the industry and his fans.
One such movie is ‘Freddy’.
Slated to be a romantic thriller, Freddy is directed by Shashank Ghosh who directed Veere Di Wedding.
Not many details are known about the movie but what we do know is, the producers wanted to release it directly on OTT.
What’s the problem?
Apparently, Freddy’s marketing has been based on Dhamaka that featured on Netflix and also starred Kartik.
However, as per reports, Freddy is finding any buyers.
As per sources, most of the OTT platforms have not shown interest in picking up the movie.
His is despite the presence of Kartik Aaryan, who has a big fan following.
This proves that after suffering big losses on recent Bollywood films, OTT platforms are extra-careful about the content.
No matter how big the star, they are evaluating the content on the basis of its storline and treatment.
What’s the solution
Well, the only option is, the producers might release the film in theatres.
This is a much harder way to make a profit as collections will depend on word-of-mouth and the reviews.
In an OTT release, the producers are assured of a big sum, regardless of whether the viewers like the movie or not.
This is a big wake up call for producers who can’t rely on star power alone to ensure good box office numbers.
