England are off to UAE to spend some time away from the game. The Three Lions lost the Visakhapatnam Test Match by 106 runs on Monday. The result has meant that the series is now level at 1-1.

Chasing 399 to win, England displayed their best-attacking instincts with the bat. Joe Root in particular is the prime definition of the Baz-Ball tactics adopted by the English team. The former England skipper may have scored just 16 but his intent was lauded by many.

During the Vizag Test, 33-year-old Joe Root spoke to Jio Cinema. During his chat, the English run machine revealed the mental make-up of the current side. The last time England visited India they were beaten 3-1 with Joe Root as the skipper.

Joe Root Reveals Insight Behind Baz-ball Cricket

Host Broadcaster Jio Cinema recently chatted with Joe Root the dynamic England star batter. During his interaction, Joe Root credited the change in mindset behind his teams’ success.

“We don’t really do team meetings anymore. That’s one of the great things about how we do all of our conversations away from the game and just that enjoyment and buzz about spending time with each other” Root said. Over the years England have been the beacon of Test cricket along with Australia. The change in tactics has earned a lot of praise from fans across the world. This Baz-Ball strategy helped England whitewash Pakistan in their backyard.

Speaking further on his team approach, Joe Root said “We don’t have to sit in a meeting room and I think it’s more authentic and more genuine when you can have it around a dinner table. Having a coffee in the morning or whatever, I think that’s when you do your best learning”

India had set England a target of 399 to win the second Test but the 3 Lions fell short by 106 runs. Many cricket experts cast their mind back to the 2022 game in Birmingham where England chased 376 runs. While addressing the comparisons, Joe Root said “The last time we played India in England, in that one-off Test, we were miles behind in the game and we managed to chase that score down. There have been numerous other occasions where we’ve done things that we never thought we could have done before,”

Mumbai Indians women (MI W) continued their winning streak in the WPL 2024. The defending champions had a relatively easier challenge as compared to DC women when they took on Gujarat Giants women at M Chinnaswamy stadium. Right from the toss, everything went right for MI women. In the end, they registered a 5-wicket win and continued their streak of winning games in run chases.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field first. Her decision was proven right as Shabnim Ismail bowled a dream spell with the new ball. Within the PP overs, the experienced pacer claimed two wickets, including that of Veda Krishnamurthy and Harleen Doel. She later dismissed Beth Mooney for 24(22) as MI women were all over the Giants.

E Bryce and Tanuja Kanwar tried to revive the innings if the Giants. However, the lack of contribution from the proper batters did not help them. While Bryce scored 25(24), Kanwar hit 28(21) and emerged as the star performer. Amelia Kerr did the clean-up job and got rid of the tailenders quickly. Her 4/17 and Ismail’s 3/18 helped the MI women to restrict the Giants to just 126 runs. On a wicket like Bengaluru, it was not going to be enough.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr guide MI women to win

Chasing the total, MI women lost the wickets of their reliable openers early. The duo of Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews could not step up. It led to the recovery phase where Nat Sciver Brunt and Kaur framed a good partnership. It consolidated the innings of MI women. After claiming 1/14 with the ball, Sciver scored 22(18) before getting perished. Amelia Kerr then joined Kaur.

The duo batted well in the middle. They were helped by some poor bowling from the Giants, who conceded a lot of extras. While Harmanpreet Kaur scored an unbeaten 46*(41), Kerr hit 31(25). The duo ensured that MI women were in the run chase throughout. For Giants, Tanuja Kanwar was the star in the bowling as well. She claimed 2/21 in her four overs, which was not enough for Giants. MI women won by 5 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

England's Barmy Army

England’s Barmy Army cried over the dismissal of Joe Root during the 2nd innings of the 4th Test in Ranchi. The match between India and England witnessed a lot of umpire calls which have been a center of discussion. As Root got dismissed in a rather clean way as per the technology, the admin of England’s Barmy Army could not hold back his opinion.

England’s Barmy Army’s handle posted an image of the dismissal of Joe Root. The admin posted a shocking emoji along with the dismissal. It was a very good ball from Kuldeep Yadav who got the ball to hit right inside the line and the impact of the ball was right in line. Even the wickets were hitting upon checking the dismissal by the third umpires.

Instead of accepting the dismissal, the fans of England started crying about it, when in actuality, it was the Indian fans who were disappointed the most with the umpire’s calls which were an unfortunate barrier for them in the first innings. In fact, Root himself survived a close call in the first innings and went on to score an unbeaten hundred. But back then, the fans of England did not seem to have any problems.

Not the first instance from England’s Barmy Army

The fans took to the comment section of the post of England’s Barmy Army and questioned their hypocrisy. The Indian fans pointed out that Root survived a close call, and four decisions of umpires’ call were in England’s favour in the Test. It is not new that the handle of England’s Barmy Army has commented foul or cried over such incidents, especially against India.

When Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck in the ODI World Cup 2023, England trolled him, only to get a reply from the Indian fans who brutally trolled them back. During the Ashes 2023, England’s Barmy Army had a go at the Australians for the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the 2nd innings of the Lord’s Test and invoked the ‘Spirit of cricket’ argument to cover the dismissal.
