India’s potential squad for T20 World Cup 2024 as per reports

Published

India

The latest report has talked about India’s potential squad for the T20 WC 2024. It is being claimed that Rohit Sharma is likely to be the skipper of the Indian team. In an interview recently, Jay Shah, the Indian Cricket Board’s Secretary, claimed that India would win the major tournament later this year in the West Indies and the USA under the leadership of Rohit, which almost confirmed India’s leadership.

Rohit is set to be India’s skipper and the first opener. To open the innings alongside him would be Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has all but established himself in the XI. As a backup opener, there are two options for India to select. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill are likely to be the backup openers. However, their place in the team is likely to depend on their performances in the IPL 2024.

In the middle order, India is likely to have Virat Kohli at number three. Many believe that he could compete for the opening spot given the fact that he opens for RCB at 3. At number 4, Suryakumar Yadav has sealed his spot. The challenge for the star batter will be to convert his performances in the format to a big one in the T20 WC 2024. India is likely to have two pace-bowling all-rounders in the squad.

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are likely to be the star all-rounders in the squad. The batters lower down the order will compete against each other to make it to the squad. Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan are all in contention. However, not many have been able to establish themselves. Rinku Singh seems to be the one with the best chance of making it to the squad.

Others will have to give their best performance in the IPL 2024. However, Jitesh Sharma is likely to be in the squad given his performances in the last two seasons of the IPL and his ability to keep wickets lower down the order, a trait which is also found in Dhruv Jurel. India is likely to make a huge decision on the spin-bowling all-rounders. Ravindra Jadeja might be snubbed at the cost of Axar Patel.

Spinners and pacers in the Indian squad

While Jadeja has been an experienced campaigner, Patel has been more consistent in the format, particularly as a batter. India have trouble in picking spinners. There are two quality spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi who have been very good in recent times. While both are really good options for India, given the balance of the squad, only one player is likely to be picked.

If India does not ask the part-time bowlers to deliver some overs, Bishnoi might come into the picture. Among the pacers, Jasprit Bumrah is the obvious choice as the main pacer. To assist him at the other end would be the likes of Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. Only one among the two is likely to be in the XI, given the nature of the West Indies and the USA pitches.

If Hardik had not gotten injured in the ODI WC 2023, or if he had recovered in time to be a regular in the team, the star player was likely to be India’s skipper. His fitness has meant India to go with Rohit as the skipper. The final squad is likely to have many players from the list as the report seems genuine.

India’s probable squad for the T20 WC 2024 –

Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Sanju Samson/Tilak Varma

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has confirmed that Kohli, wife Anushka Sharma, and their children, Vamika and Akaay, plan to relocate to London. Sharma revealed that the cricketer envisions settling in the UK post-retirement. Virat Kohli frequently visits London, where their son Akaay was born earlier this year on February 15.

The couple owns property in London, where they are expected to reside after the move. “Yes, Virat plans to move to London with his family soon. However, he is currently focused on cricket and spending time with his family,” Sharma stated.

Kohli has balanced cricket commitments and family time this year. After the birth of his son, he returned to India following the T20 World Cup in June and played series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Currently participating in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, his next major assignment is the Champions Trophy, followed by IPL 2025.

Despite a dip in form during recent matches against Australia, Sharma expressed confidence in Kohli’s ability to deliver. “Virat scored a brilliant century in Perth and will bounce back in the Boxing Day and Sydney Tests,” Sharma said.

Regarding Kohli’s career longevity, Sharma dismissed retirement rumors. “Virat is fit and will continue playing for at least five more years. He will likely participate in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa,” he added. Sharma emphasized Kohli’s passion for cricket and his ability to perform under pressure.

As Kohli continues to shine on the field, his potential relocation marks a new chapter for the cricket icon and his family.
