On 24 July 2023, day five of the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies was on the cards. After four days of play, the home team needed 289 runs while India needed eight wickets to win. But, due to rain, no play happened as the first session got washed off. Many images went viral and fans also shared their views on social media.
Speaking of the match, the Windies skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting first, India scored 438 runs in 128 overs. Virat Kohli scored 121 runs off 206 balls, including 11 fours. Along with him, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 57 runs and Rohit Sharma scored 80 runs.
India set a 365-run target for the Windies
Ravindra Jadeja scored 61 runs while Ravichandran Ashwin scored 56 runs. For the home side, both Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican took three wickets each. Along with them, Jason Holder took two wickets while Shannon Gabriel managed one wicket. Then, the Windies scored 255 runs in 115.4 overs. Brathwaite scored 75 runs off 235 balls. For the Men in Blue, Mohammed Siraj took five wickets while both Mukesh Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each. Ashwin grabbed one wicket. Notably, it turned out to be Siraj’s best Test figure.
Then, in their second innings, India declared after scoring 181 runs for two wickets in 24 overs. Rohit smashed a 35-ball fifty while Ishan Kishan smashed his maiden Test fifty off just 33 balls. Thus, Ishan became the fifth fastest team India player to score a fifty in the red ball format. Hence, they set a 365-run target for the home side. However, after a decent start, Brathwaite got out on 28 runs while Kirk McKenzie managed a four-ball duck. Finally, they finished day four with a score of 76 runs in 32 overs for two wickets. Tagenarine Chanderpaul remained not out on 24* runs while Jermaine Blackwood remained not out on 20* runs. Ashwin grabbed both the wicket while other bowlers toiled hard.
