Al-Nassr lost to Benfica 4-1 in their most recent preseason match on Thursday, July 20. Despite playing 84 minutes of the game, Portugal’s captain and great footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to score a single goal. Before the FIFA World Cup in 2022, Ronaldo ended his contract with Manchester United and joined Al-Nassr.

Meanwhile, during the 67th minute of the game, with the score at 3-1, Ronaldo was spotted signalling to manager Luis Castro to allow him to stay on the field for five more minutes. The legendary Portuguese player appeared to be planning a comeback, but his team gave up another goal just one minute later.

While Ronaldo failed to score and missed a few excellent scoring chances, his old Real Madrid teammate and the great Argentina player Angel di Maria was ruthless in the first half and scored a magnificent first goal for Benfica. Goncalo Ramos, a member of the Portuguese national team, who scored a hat-trick in the FIFA World Cup 2022, scored a brace in the first half before Khalid Al-Ghannam equalised for Al-Nassr in the 43rd minute.

Al-Nassr is set to face PSG on July 25

Al-Nassr received a lifeline when Khalid scored four minutes before halftime. And it was expected that Al-Nassr will bounce back in the second half but that didn’t happen as late in the game, Benfica added another goal to make it 4-1 for the team thanks to Andreas Schjelderup. While Ronaldo recently claimed that the standard of European football has declined, Benfica demonstrated its superiority over Al-Nassr by playing rough with the Saudi Pro League team.

However, Al-Nassr will be back in action against Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming friendly match on July 25, Ronaldo and company will be hoping to resume their winning ways. Despite joining the team in the middle of the season, the five-time UEFA Champions League champion put some impact, scoring 14 goals in 19 games in all competitions. However, the team came up short in both the King Cup of Champions semifinals and the league championship.
