Indian Cricket team always lack a quality fast bowler, however, the scouting remains to continue. It is quite rare to find a bowler in India who effortlessly clocks more than 140 KPH deliveries. However, recently found a fast bowler from Jammu, Umran Malik, who has the ability to deliver 150 KPH + deliveries but despite this, he fails to cement his place in the team.

Meanwhile, former legendary West Indies cricketer Brian Lara talked about what is going wrong with Malik. Lara has worked closely with Malik in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Lara serves as a head coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The legendary cricketer believes that Malik has to learn that pace does not trouble the batter and he should work on his lines and lengths as well.

“He will be a sensation, but very quickly he will have to learn that fast bowling really does not trouble the best players in the world. You have to have the ability to do something with the ball, be sensible, and maybe understand times when you have to trickle back or understand the times when you have to up the tempo. He is very young and has got a lot of years ahead of him,” Lara was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He could definitely be one of the best India could produce: Brian Lara

Lara also gave examples of some great former fast bowlers like Wasim Akram, Malcolm Marshall and Michael Holding and said that they all had the raw pace but they worked more on their skills. Lara also believes if Malik works with the former legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn then he can become one of the best Indian pacers.

“We have had so many different examples. Wasim Akram was a raw pace, Malcolm Marshall had a destructive pace, and Michael Holding did. But they all know that at some point in time, they had to come up with a lot more tricks than just being able to bowl fast. If he (Umran Malik) works with Dale Steyn, he could definitely be one of the best India could produce.” he added.
