India have registered one of their biggest victory in the Test format by defeating West Indies in the first match of the 2-match Test series by an inning and 141 runs at Windsor Park in Dominica on Saturday, July 15. The Men in Blue clinched a convincing victory with 2 days remaining and made the work short for them.

This is also the 5th consecutive time that the Indian team have defeated West Indies which is a record for them. Talking about the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. But the tricky surface in Dominica turned nightmare for the Caribbean batters as they were bundled out for just 150 runs in the first innings.

The no. 1 ranked Test bowler in the world Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 33rd fifer in the longest format. Star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja also got 3 wickets for himself. Coming to bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided an outstanding start to the innings and stitched a massive 229-run stand for the first wicket.

Both smashed centuries on a surface where batting was never easy. Both batters didn’t look in a hurry and took their time to achieve the milestone. However, Rohit departed after scoring 103 runs but Jaiswal continued to bat well in his debut Test match and played a brilliant knock of 171 runs.

Brilliant bowling performance by the Indian team

Former India captain Virat Kohli also batted well but fell short of his 29th Test century by 24 runs. Indian skipper Rohit decided to declare the innings after India scored 421 runs. Many fans expected the Windies batters to do well in the 2nd innings but that didn’t happen as none of their batters could do anything and were wrapped up on the score of just 130 runs.

India have now taken a 1-0 lead over the Caribbean side and will look to win the 2nd Test as well which will start on July 20. It is expected that the management would give a chance to other players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar.
