Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has come under a lot of criticism, especially from Indian fans, after a picture of him keeping his feet on the World Cup trophy went viral on social media. His ‘disrespectful’ gesture was slammed by many, including veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami. However, the 32-year-old has now won the hearts on the internet with a lovely gesture.

Marsh was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant batting performance in the Test match against Pakistan in Perth. Australia took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a 360-run win in the first Test on Sunday, December 17. The right-hander has become a vital cog for Australia in all formats and has carried his excellent form from the World Cup to red-ball cricket.

Playing in his hometown, Marsh scored 90 runs off 107 balls in the first innings and an unbeaten 63* off 68 balls in the second innings. He also took a wicket in the first innings, dismissing former Pakistan captain Babar Azam. He pipped David Warner, who scored 164 runs in the first innings, to win the Player of the Match. Notably, Warner, playing his final Test series, was dismissed for a duck in the second innings.

Marsh surprises young fan with his POTM medal

After the match, Marsh was seen acknowledging his fans with autographs. He also handed over his POTM medal to a young fan in the stands. In a video that went viral on social media, the batting all-rounder was seen rushing to one of the stands and putting his medal around the cute supporter’s neck. “Mitch Marsh – what a guy! A special end to the West Test for this young fan,” Cricket.com.au captioned.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Marsh said: “My first Test match at this stadium, first at Perth in six years, so it’s a nice feeling. When I went out, the lead was big and so the pressure was off, but this was a tricky wicket, so I had to gauge the conditions before playing my shots. Batting is my priority, we’ve got such an amazing bowling attack, so happy to contribute with the ball and it’s a great feeling to take Babar out.”

Mohammad Rizwan has come under heavy fire for his performance during Pakistan’s loss to South Africa in a high-stakes match. Critics described his innings as lackluster, accusing him of playing a “shameless” and “criminal” knock that failed to meet the demands of the situation. His inability to accelerate scoring when required drew ire from fans and analysts alike, with many questioning his intent and decision-making under pressure.

While Rizwan’s cautious approach ensured some stability, it proved inadequate against South Africa’s aggressive game plan. His inability to shift gears in critical moments ultimately hurt Pakistan’s chances, and his performance sparked a broader debate about his role and strategy in the team’s batting order. Some commentators were particularly scathing, questioning how Rizwan could reflect on his effort given the circumstances.

The incident has added to the scrutiny of Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament, with many demanding better strategies and execution from key players. Rizwan, regarded as a pivotal figure in the lineup, now faces the challenge of responding to the criticism and delivering under pressure in future matches.
