WATCH: Indian cricketers attend ‘Bhasma Aarti’ at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain after 2nd T20I win over Afghanistan
Team India players seeking divine blessings have been a regular sight in recent times. From veteran players to newcomers to the team, they are often seen offering prayers at sacred places in the cities where they play. After India’s six-wicket win over Afghanistan in Indore, the young Indian quartet of Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma and Tilak Varma visited the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain.
The Men in Blue have clinched the three-match series against their Asian rivals after an impressive win on Sunday, January 14. They chased down the target of 173 runs in just 15.4 overs for the loss of six wickets at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. Varma, along with three others who were part of the Playing XI for the second match, attended the ‘Bhasma Aarti’ at the Mahakaleshwar temple.
All four of them were spotted dressed in traditional attire to perform the rituals on Monday early morning. A major pilgrimage center for Hindus, the temple at Ujjain is known for the powerful deity Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Mahakal. Many cricketers, including Virat Kohli and KL Rahu, have also attended rituals here in the past. In their busy and challenging careers, the serene ambiance and divine blessings will give them peace and upliftment.

India aim to whitewash three-match series
India will aim to whitewash the series when they meet Afghanistan in the final match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17. This is India’s final T20I assignment before the 2024 World Cup and serves as a major platform for players to impress the selectors for a spot in the squad. However, performances in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season will be the primary criteria for World Cup selection.
Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets in the last match but was expensive as he conceded 39 runs in his four-over spell. Jitesh Sharma, who played an impactful cameo in the first match, failed to open his account in the following match. Washington Sundar, on the other hand, gave 23 runs in his three overs and failed to pick up any wickets.
