In the 43rd over of the match, Santner sent a full delivery just outside the off-stump. Maxwell, popularly known as the “Big Show”, showed his incredible batting prowess, combining timing and brute force to send the ball soaring high above the Dharamsala stadium. The crowd erupted in applause as the ball landed on the rooftop. His ability to change the course of a game with moments of brilliance like this makes him a player to watch throughout the tournament.
Brilliant batting performance by Australia
Talking about Australia’s batting innings, their explosive batters, particularly Travis Head and David Warner, powered their team to a massive total of 388 runs after New Zealand invited them to bat first. Right from the beginning, Head and Warner unleashed a barrage of boundaries, amassing 118/0 at the conclusion of the initial powerplay. Both batters swiftly reached their half-centuries, with Head achieving the milestone in just 25 balls, closely followed by Warner in 28 balls.
The opening duo crafted a formidable 175-run partnership before Glenn Phillips dismissed Warner for a well-made 81 off 65 deliveries. Shortly after, he removed Head for an impressive 109 off 67 balls. Unfortunately for Australia, Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh couldn’t maintain the momentum, offering New Zealand a chance at a late comeback.
However, an explosive performance by Maxwell once again tilted the game in Australia’s favour. Following Maxwell’s departure with 41 runs from 24 balls, Josh Inglis contributed 38 runs from 28 balls, while Pat Cummins blazed 37 runs from just 14 deliveries, ensuring Australia finished with a commanding total.
