WATCH: ‘Chaddi aur kiska niklega’ – Ravi Shastri makes hilarious on-air comment after Ishan Kishan sends ‘message’ to Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer
Team India dominated South Africa by 243 runs at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday, November 25. Having already secured a semi-berth, the Men in Blue cemented their top spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup with 8 straight wins. Virat Kohli took the limelight by scoring a match-winning hundred on his 35th birthday, while Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja also excelled.
India bossed the game after putting up a massive first-innings total of 326-5. Skipper Rohit, as usual, gave a blistering start and the momentum was carried on by Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, adding 130-plus runs for the third wicket. Their partnership was crucial as India had to keep wickets in hand to reach a competitive total on a tough batting pitch.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan walked into the middle with a message for Kohli and Iyer in between an over. The incident was captured on television and Ravi Shastri, who was commentating the match, gave a hilarious reaction to it. The former India head coach commented that if anything goes wrong for India it will be Ishan Kishan who is held accountable.
“Ulta sidha bol diya kuch aur baad meain batsman bataya andar jaake ki mereko Ishan ne bola ye karne ko…phir toh chaddi aur kiska niklega (If he says something wrong and the batsman later said that Ishan Kishan told me to do this…then his underwear would be pulled off),” Shastri said on air.

Scoring hundreds is a big obsession for us: Shastri
Kohli notched up his 49th ODI century against South Africa to equal legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s world record for most ODI centuries. Following Kohli’s landmark in the 49th over off Kagiso Rabada, Shastri heaped praise on the former India captain. However, he also made a strong admission that India is a stats-obsessed country.
“We are a country obsessed with records. Scoring hundreds is a big obsession for us. Sunil Gavaskar started it all. I remember when Sachin Tendulkar was chasing his 34th, it wasn’t easy. He had many sleepless nights, he used to get out in the 70s and 80s. It took him a while, just like it has taken Virat Kohli,” Shastri said.
“Today, Virat played a very calculated innings. He started off quickly when the ball was coming onto the bat. And when the ball started dripping, it wasn’t easy to pick the bowlers. So, he soaked the pressure, took his time and scored his century,” he added.
