Top 10 unsold players of IPL 2022 auction
The IPL auction 2022 is successfully done and dusted as all the franchises tried to gather the best possible squad.
A total of 204 players were sold amongst the 10 teams.
However, there were a lot of surprises as some of the big names went unsold in the auction.
So, we are presenting the list of the top 10 unsold players in the IPL auction
1: Suresh Raina
(Base price of Rs 2 crore)
The fourth highest run-getter in all-time IPL history and the player who is known as Mr. IPL was surprisingly not picked by any side in the auction.
The left-handed batter has played 205 games and scored 5,528 runs at an average of 32.51 in his IPL career.
Raina is 35 years old and he is definitely fit enough to play some more seasons in the IPL.
He struggled in the last season as he managed to score only 160 runs from 12 matches at an average of 17.7.
But that doesn’t mean he cannot make a comeback because the form is temporary and the class is permanent for a player of his calibre.
2: Steve Smith
(Base price of Rs 2 crore)
After having a mixed tournament in 2021 the Australian run-machine surprisingly didn’t find any buyer in the IPL auction 2022.
Smith scored 152 runs in 8 games while playing for Delhi Capitals at an average of 25.33 and a strike rate of 112.59 in IPL 2021.
Smith could have come in handy for some of the franchises due to his experience but no one decided to give him the cold shoulder in the auction.
3: Shakib Al Hasan
(Base price of Rs 2 crore)
One of the top all-rounders of world cricket Shakib-Al-Hasan also went unsold unexpectedly.
On the ICC all-rounders ranking, the Bangladeshi star is on the top position ODIs while on the 2nd spot in T20I rankings.
Despite his outstanding performances with both the bat and ball, none of the franchises put in a bid for Shakib.
His poor performance in the last IPL season was might also in the minds of the teams for not picking him in the auction.
4: Adil Rashid
(Base price of Rs 2 crore)
The English leggie is currently one of the best spinners in the shortest format of the game.
He has proved himself as a good wicket-taking option in T20 Internationals.
Adil Rashid is on the 3rd spot of ICC’s T20I bowler’s rankings and he bowls at a low economy rate but still, no franchise showed interest in purchasing him.
5: Imran Tahir
(Base price of Rs 2 crore)
The 42 years old Imran Tahir failed to get any buyer in the mega auction despite having a base price of Rs 2 crore.
The experienced South African legspinner was a part of Chennai Super Kings last year but he got a chance to play just a single game in which he claimed two wickets with an economy rate of only 4.
6: Aaron Finch
(Base price of Rs 1.50 crore)
Aaron Finch has played some good knocks in the IPL but he never showed consistency in his performance.
The white-ball skipper of the Australian team last played an IPL game in 2020 for RCB where he performed reasonably well – scoring 268 runs in 12 matches.
7: Dawid Malan
(Base price of Rs 1.50 crore)
One of the most consistent performers in T20 Internationals in the last couple of years for England Dawid Malan also went unsold in the auction.
The left-handed batter was on the number 1 position in ICC T20I rankings for most of the time in the last 12 months but he has now dropped to the 5th position due to his absence in the West Indies series.
He was a part of Punjab Kings last season but he played only a single game in which he scored 26 runs.
8: Eoin Morgan
(Base price of Rs 1.50 crore)
The white-ball captain of England is not picked by any team in the mega auction of 2022.
Eoin Morgan had a poor run with the bat in IPL 2021 as he managed to score only 133 runs in 17 matches at an average of just 11.08.
He might didn’t perform well with the bat but he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the final in IPL 2021 with his excellent leadership skills.
His poor batting performance in 2021 probably went a long way in franchises deciding against buying him despite his superb leadership skills.
9: Chris Lynn
(Base price of Rs 1.50 crore)
One of the most destructive hitters in world cricket, Chris Lynn also failed to impress any IPL franchise in the mega auction.
The right-handed batter from Australia is a star of BBL due to his brutal hard-hitting ability in the top-order but he is not picked by any team in IPL.
Chris Lynn was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise in 2021 he only got one chance to play in the entire season due to the presence of Rohit and de Kock at the top.
Lynn, however, scored 49 runs at a strike-rate of 140 in that game.
10: Tabraiz Shamsi
(Base price of Rs 1 crore)
It is a huge shock that a bowler like Tabraiz Shamsi, who is currently the second-ranked bowler in the T20I ranking of ICC will go unsold in the auction.
The leg-arm unorthodox spinner showed everyone what he is capable of in the series against India.
He was the joint highest wicket-taker in 2021 with 36 wickets.
Despite all of his performance and with a base price of only 1 crore, it is a surprise that no team showed interest in him
