‘That’s called robbing’ – Fans react as Australian skipper Pat Cummins wins Cricketer of the Year award for 2023

Published

on

Pat Cummins has been crowned the Cricketer of the Year for 2023. The Australian captain won almost everything he could in the year and helped Australia to achieve glory through his performances in the longest format of the game. The star cricketer was good as a bowler but ruthless as a performer for his side. The number of tournaments won by Cummins in 2023 is astonishing.

As a skipper, Cummins started the year by losing the Border Gavaskar Trophy in India. He soon made a comeback by winning the ODI series against India in India. Following it, Cummins made a statement by winning the WTC final as a player and as a captain. In the long English summer, Pat achieved a lot as a bowler, even as a batter, and as a captain.

The star bowler helped Australia to retain the Ashes. Although he could not win it for the team, an away Ashes draw is still a worthy achievement. But the biggest win of Pat’s career came in November. The Australian skipper helped to beat India in the final of the ODI WC 2023 in their backyard with his boiling performances and brilliant captaincy.

Performances as a player

Pat ended the year on a high note winning the Test series against Pakistan. He also got a huge pay in the IPL auctions for the 2024 season. In Test cricket, Pat claimed 42 wickets in 11 matches at a bowling average of 27.50, at a bowling SR of 45.74, at an economy rate of 3.61, including three fifers and a 10-wicket haul. As a batter, Cummins scored 254 runs as well in Test cricket.

In ODIs, Cummins did not have as good a year as a player, although he performed when it mattered the most in the WC final. With the bat, Pat scored 168 runs at a batting average of 42.00. With the ball, the Australian pacer claimed 17 wickets in 13 innings at a bowling average of 36.35, a bowling SR of 37.94, at an economy of 5.75, with a best match figure of 3/51 to his name.
