Indian batter KL Rahul achieved a milestone that wasn’t even achieved by the former legendary India captains MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Leading the Indian cricket team to a resounding victory over Australia in the 1st ODI of the 3-match ODI series in Mohali on Friday, September 22, Rahul carved his name in the annals of cricket history.

The match, which took place at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, witnessed a display of exceptional skill and composure by Rahul and company. India managed to chase down the target set by Australia without any difficulty and the victory marked a significant moment in Rahul’s captaincy career.

What sets this achievement apart is that neither MS Dhoni who was known for his astute leadership and remarkable coolness under pressure, nor Virat Kohli who was very aggressive when it came to leading the team, managed to secure a victory in Mohali as India never won against Australia in an ODI match in Mohali since 1996. Rahul who led the team in the absence of regular India skipper Rohit Sharma became the first captain to achieve the feat after 1996.

Brilliant performance by the Indian cricket team

It was the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who won the last ODI match against Australia in 1996. However, as the cricketing world applauds this remarkable win, Rahul’s captaincy reign has certainly started on a high note, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what he will achieve next in the world of cricket.

Talking about the match, India invited Australia to bat first after which the Kangaroos scored 276 runs in the first innings. Mohammed Shami picked up a brilliant fifer and helped the team to restrict the Australians under 300. Chasing the target, openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad set the foundation for a successful chase. Later, Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav led the team to a convincing victory by 5 wickets.
