India’s star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja displayed a magnificent bowling performance in the 5th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. He dismantled Australia’s middle order and helped the Indian team to restrict Australia to 199 runs.

Meanwhile, Jadeja talked about his performance in the post-innings interview and said that playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL has helped him to know the conditions at Chepauk very well. Apart from that, he also thanked the crowd at Chepauk for coming a huge numbers.

“I play for CSK so I know the conditions here, when I saw the pitch I thought I should get 2-3 wickets, luckily I got 3 wickets and am very happy. I was looking to bowl into the stumps and there was turn, you never know which one is going straight and which one is turning, the odd ball was turning and I was just mixing the pace. Chennai crowd always come in good numbers and it is good to see a full house. Just go out there and play simple cricket, not try anything fancy and keep it simple,”

Brilliant bowling performance by Jadeja

Jadeja played a pivotal role by breaking a crucial partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, which had reached 36 runs in the 28th over. He delivered an exceptional left-arm spinner’s delivery that pitched on the middle stump line and hit the top of the off-stump, dismissing Smith, who was going strong at 46. Smith appeared perplexed as he acknowledged Jadeja’s brilliance with a bewildered expression on his face.

Jadeja was capitalizing on the favourable conditions in Chennai, evident by the puff of dust that arose whenever he imparted more spin on the ball. In the following over, Jadeja claimed a significant wicket as Marnus Labuschagne attempted a sweep and gave away his wicket. He then trapped Alex Carey LBW for a duck, leaving Australia struggling during the middle overs. His final bowling figures stood at 28 runs conceded for 3 wickets after bowling his full quota of 10 overs, including 2 maidens.
