Pat Cummins stands up for his teammate Usman Khawaja over wearing armband
Pat Cummins has given his opinion on teammate Usman Khawaja wearing the black armband in the first Test against Pakistan. It has become a big issue in the last few days, as the apex board has reprimanded Khawaja for his act. According to the code of conduct, the cricketers had to take the permission of either their home board or the apex board to wear something as such.
But the statement of the apex board claimed that Usman Khawaja did not take any permission from them or from Cricket Australia. However, Khawaja claimed that Cricket Australia was in full support of Khawaja over the same. It was not even the original motive of Khawaja, as he wanted to wear shoes with slogans ‘All lives are equal’ but was not allowed to.
Regarding the same, Pat Cummins was asked to react in the latest interview. Cummins was in the press conference before the second Test of the series against Pakistan. Cummins was candid and backed his teammate over his move. Cummins supported both the motives of Khawaja, to wear the shoe with slogan, and the black armband, and said that his teammate is not wrong.

Cummins said that Khawaja was being respectful and added that it was not offensive. “We really support Uzzy. He’s standing up for what he believes, and I think he’s done it really respectfully. As I said last week, ‘All lives are equal’, I don’t think that’s very offensive, and I’d say the same about the dove,” said the Australian captain as he backed his teammate for the move.
Ahead of the second Test against Pakistan, Cummins added that he has no problem with Khawaja, as he knows the character of the latter. “That’s Uzzy. I think he can really hold his head high with the way he’s gone about it,” added the world champion. Australia will be taking on Pakistan in the second Test of the series at the iconic MCG in Melbourne on the Boxing Day.
