In the fourth game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh and Afghanistan locked horns at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The three-time finalist, Bangladesh needed to win this by a big margin. After all, they lost their opening game against the defending champions, Sri Lanka by a big margin. Meanwhile, in this game, the Bangla Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot day.

They had a decent start as openers, Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraj put together 60 runs in 10 overs. The former was the first wicket to fall to Mujeeb Ur Rahman. In the next over, Towhid Hridoy bagged a silver duck. At 63/2, the likes of Miraj and Najmul Hossain Shanto put together 194 runs for the third wicket. Both batters got a hundred but Miraj got injured and was retired hurt.

Apart from the duo’s centuries, the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan scored cameos and took the team to a daunting total of 334/5 at the end of the innings.

Bangladesh keeps themselves alive in Asia Cup 2023 with a thumping win

The Green Brigade bowled well throughout the second innings. They had a great start as Shoriful Islam trapped Rahmanullah Gurbaz for lbw. The likes of Rahmat Shah and Ibrahim Zadran put together 78 runs for the second wicket. However, the former was struggling to go free as he was coming back from an injury. To the credit of Bangladesh bowlers, they bowled with discipline.

Zadran scored 75 runs and added another 52 runs with his skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi. The former got out thanks to a brilliant set of wicketkeeping from Rahim as he took a spectacular catch to his right. After this wicket, the likes of Najibullah Zadran and Shahidi put together another 62 runs although both struggled to keep up with the required run rate.

After this partnership was broken by Miraj, it was a matter of time before the Blue Brigade lost this game. They were bowled out for 245 runs, losing the game by 89 runs.
