‘Mediocre batter highly overrated by his fans’ – Fans react as Pat Cummins dismisses Babar Azam with a peach at MCG

Babar Azam

Pat Cummins lit the second Day of the Boxing Day Test with his bowling. The Australian captain bowled a beautiful nip backer and dismissed Babar Azam for a solitary run at the MCG. The crowd went mad at the bowling of their leader, who seemed to be at his best. The star batter from Pakistan though, continued to have a forgettable outing with the bat in the series.

When Babar walked into the middle, Pakistan were in a good position in the match. Till then, the wicket did not seem any threatening and played well for the most part. Pakistani top-order batters had started well as they scored 124/1 at one stage in the innings. From there, the visiting side saw an incredible collapse, where they got reduced to 170/6 in quick time.

It was during this period that Babar walked into the middle and was soon dismissed by Cummins. Before Azam batted, the duo of Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique seemed to be in a good groove. The wicket of Abdullah started the collapse for Pakistan. Pat in his second spell seemed pumped up and bowled at full throttle to the batters. The Australian captain was at his best.

Pat Cummins’ corker to Babar Azam

Cummins claimed a fantastic catch off his bowling to dismiss Shafique. It rubbed onto the shoulders of other players, who cheered their captain. Cummins got the ball to penetrate more from that point. As Babar walked in to face Pat Cummins, the latter got the ball to nip back into the star batter and outdo him on a couple of occasions. Babar did not seem to be in his element.

The Australian captain then produced a peach of a delivery which had no answer from the Pakistani number 4. Cummins bowled on a good length and got the ball to nip back into the right-hander. Babar tried to defend it through the line, but the ball pierced the bat-pad gap of Babar to hit the stumps. It was a fast bowler’s delight and the batter’s dismay.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the dismissal of Babar Azam –
