India’s young sensation Shubman Gill surely has a lot of capability to become the next big thing in the Indian cricket scene. The 24-year-old opening batter has already proved himself in the international platform and that too in all formats of the game. He has been brilliant in the Test format and is currently the no. 1 batter in the ODI format. He is also an important part of the team in the T20I format as well.

Meanwhile, former legendary West Indies captain Brian Lara recently talked about Gill and claimed that the right-handed batter can break two of his greatest records. Lara said that Gill can go past his 400-run knock in Test cricket and also break his 501-run knock in first-class cricket.

“Shubman Gill can break both my records. Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records. He (Gill) can do it (break my records). If Gill plays County cricket then he can break my 501*. In Test cricket, he can surely go past 400,” Lara was quoted as saying by Crictracker.

Shubman Gill will be leading Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024

Gill was recently announced as the captain of Gujarat Titans for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians. It would be interesting to see Gill playing as a leader as he never led a team before. Coming back to Lara, he further added and said that Gill would score big. He also said that the youngster might not get centuries in the recently concluded ODI World Cup but he played some crucial knocks as an opener.

“Shubman will score big, mark my words. Gill didn’t score a century (in the World Cup) but look at the knocks he has already played. He has centuries in all formats, has smashed a double hundred in ODIs and has also played many match-winnings in the IPL. I’m sure he will win many major tournaments in the future,” he said.
