Mohammed Shami has received the Arjuna Award for the year 2023. The star pacer of India was honoured by the Indian government for his performance in the ODI World Cup 2203, where he broke several records. The right-arm pacer was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and helped India on its way to enter the final with sensational spells with the ball.

In 7 innings in the ODI WC 2023, the Indian bowler claimed 24 wickets in the tournament at an average of just over 10, which is insane. He ended up claiming 3 fifers and a 4-wicket haul in the tournament. In the semifinal of the tournament against New Zealand, Shami registered his career-best figures in ODIs, as he picked 7 wickets and conceded 57 runs, helping India to a huge win.

In his first game of the tournament, Shami bowled well and claimed 5/54 against New Zealand and made a statement. In the very next game against England, Shami bowled a dream spell and claimed 4/16. Against Sri Lanka, India bowled so well and ran through the batters, dismissing them to a paltry score of 55 runs. Shami claimed 5/17 in the match at Wankhede Stadium.
