‘It’s proven crucial in terms of women’s mental health’ – Anupamaa producer Deepa Shahi on show’s impact A big claim!

Anupamaa producer Deepa Shahi

While Anupamaa served as a ray of light for many women, guiding them towards realising their goals in life, the programme also covered many significant topics, including mental health. This was necessary for Indian TV, according to Deepa Shahi, the show’s producer and mother of producer Rajan Shahi.

“By depicting Pakhi’s adolescent experience, we hoped to increase awareness of the need to monitor all facets of a child’s emotional development and take necessary action. Despite the fact that one’s physical status has a substantial impact on one’s mental health, many people in India prefer to put physical health over mental well-being. As a result, I think it was crucial for the Indian audience to realise the need for acknowledging, prioritising, and listening to those who have worries about their mental health. The show has been quite important in terms of mental health,” she claims.

Big Claims of Anupamaa producer Deepa Shahi on mental health:

When asked what she wants to get through to the males watching the performance? She responds, “They have realised that women hold immense importance and should not be restricted to domestic roles alone. Beyond this, women have unique viewpoints and ambitions for their lives. Men should assist them in achieving these goals. You must give women the room they need in their life to succeed if you want to be a fully realised man. This is how I see things. I have two granddaughters, for instance, one of whom is studying media studies in Sydney and the other of whom is studying graphic design in Canada. Personal development should be prioritised because doing so will provide you with more assurance as you approach life. Individual growth must be given top priority.”

She also asserts that mothers who give up their careers for their children should never be denigrated because they are housewives. “A mother must, at the very least, give up some things for a while. It does not imply, however, that a woman should ignore her home duties entirely. That idea is untrue in my opinion. Youngster needs care and compassion as they mature. Without a question, a mother should be present when a child is present,” she asserts.”

Deepa Shahi on feminism:

Deepa continues, “Men are also expected to participate in household chores. Equality is crucial. Men should work together to support women who go to work; it should be a collaborative effort. A woman shouldn’t be left to handle all domestic responsibilities after returning from work. Men ought to help out and take an active part. This is the next generation’s viewpoint, and it is entirely accurate.”

The Anupamaa producer concludes by saying, “Men should participate in housework as well. Women today work outside the home exactly like men do, and they both come home exhausted. Men and women should thus be aware of one another’s emotions and the level of emotional support needed. This level of comprehension is essential. It’s unfair to isolate women and place additional burdens on them.”

Ankita Lokhande

In an interview with Hauterrfly, popular TV show actress Ankita Lokhande talked about her casting couch experience. While she now has been in the industry for quite some time, there was once a time she was one of the struggling artists.

Without revealing the name, she recalls that it occurred when she was just 19 and looking to make a name for herself. She revealed that after an audition for a south film, she received a call asking her to come sign up for the role.

At first, Ankita was very happy to hear the news and even told her mother that she was going to get the role. However, she also wondered how she was able to get the role so easily.

“When I reached there, my coordinator was told to remain outside, and she was called inside the room alone. I was told that I have to compromise,” she said.

At the time, Ankita revealed she was in the phase of “heroine banna hai (I want to become an actress)”. When asked what kind of compromise? She was told to sleep with the producer to get the role. “The reply came straight cut, ‘Apko producer ke sath sona padega’,” she said.

Strong will and self-respect

Finally getting to know why she was called for the role so quickly, Ankita responded to the offer. She said, “I don’t think your producer needs talent; he just needs a girl to sleep with, and I am not that one, and I just walked off.”

Later on, Ankita rose to fame after getting a role in a popular Indian television series in 2009 called ‘Pavitra Rishta’. The show also featured Sushant Singh Rajput and became an instant hit, running for years before coming to a close.

The show further helped in exposing her talent to the country, opening many more opportunities. She also appeared in many more TV series and reality shows like Bigg Boss S17. She is set to make an appearance in an upcoming film called ‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’.

Anurag Dobhal

Anurag Dobhal, the contestant who made an early exit from Bigg Boss 17, has stirred up controversy with his recent comments. In a candid vlog on his YouTube channel, he didn’t mince his words while expressing his dissatisfaction with the show. He also targeted this season’s winner, Munawar Faruqui.

Seated in a luxurious McLaren in a Dubai showroom, Dobhal launched into a critique of Bigg Boss 17. He humorously belittled the show’s prize money, suggesting it could only afford two McLaren tyres, considering he recently purchased a Lamborghini worth ₹5 crore in India. The season’s prize money stood at ₹50 lakh. Dobhal further claimed that he and his friend had donated more money than the entire prize pool of the show.

Dobhal’s criticism didn’t stop at the show itself; he aimed his disapproval at Munawar Faruqui, the season’s winner. Without directly naming him, Dobhal advised against ‘two-timing’ women, especially those who are married or have children.

Munawar’s dating escapades with multiple women were exposed during the reality show. It also impacted his public image. Dobhal juxtaposed this revelation with his ownership of a Lamborghini, emphasising the stark difference in their lifestyles.

‘Papa Kehte hai’: Anurag Dobhal targets Munawar Faruqui

Earlier on social media, Dobhal indirectly targeted Munawar, accusing him of defaming girls. He wrote, “Father used to say that his son will make his name big, but the son will defame stand-up comedy and girls in the name of religion and two timings.”

Reflecting on his Bigg Boss 17 experience, Dobhal recounted a particularly distressing incident known as the ‘walk of shame’ during an interview with Siddharth Kannan. He disclosed that he was emotionally affected by the activity, where he was made to feel ashamed by other contestants for supposedly disrespecting the show.

Anurag Dobhal’s bold and critical remarks have sparked conversations and reactions, shedding light on the dynamics and challenges faced by contestants beyond the Bigg Boss house.
