Is Kangna Ranaut’s Bollywood career over?

Published

on

If there is one actor who is the feeling the heat nowadays, it’s Kangana.

And it’s not because of the summer heat!

The main reason is – Kangana’s movies have been thunderous flops, one after the other.

It seems like the audience doesn’t want to see her any more and are tired of her histrionics.

Though Kangana is a brilliant actor, it is possible that she has over-exposed herself and the audience wants something new, something fresh.

This is the only explanation why out of her last 9 movies, 8 have bitten the dust!

Dhaakad fiasco

Dhaakad has turned out to be her biggest flop of all time in the Hindi film industry.

Moreover, it has no buyers on OTT and satellite rights as Dhaakad has failed to cross the Rs 3 crore mark at the box office.

Dhaakad was released on May 20.

After the release, the industry and trade experts were stunned when the day 1 figure was a mere Rs. 50 lakhs.

The day two figures were in the same range.

The three-day collections were Rs. 1.55 crore while the lifetime of the film will be less than Rs. 3 crore.

Dhaakad ranks as her third-lowest opening weekend grosser, just surpassing the collections of Thalaivii, which collected Rs. 1.07 cr, and Miley Naa Miley Hum, which earned Rs. 0.46 cr.

The flop saga continues

Kangana’s last hit was the 2015 release Tanu Weds Manu Returns which managed to pull in Rs. 150.8 cr. at the box office.

Since then, Kangana has had eight flops, which also include I Love NY, Katti Batti, Rangoon and Simran.

The only exception during this time was the film Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi which collected Rs. 92.19 cr. and was an average hit.

Box office figures of last 9 movies

Dhaakad – 1.55 cr.
Thalaivi – 1.46 cr.
Panga – 28.92 cr.
Judgemental Hai Kya – 33.11 cr.
Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi – 92.19 cr.
Simran – 17.26 cr.
Rangoon – 20.68 cr.
Katti Batti – 24.41 cr.
I Love NY – 1.54 cr.

What the trade says

Trade expert Komal Nahta, speaking about Dhaakad’s flop show, said, “It deserved to fail as it’s such a bad film.

“People don’t bother about the form as much as they bother about the soul of the film. If there’s no soul, then no amount of uniqueness of the action or that it’s being helmed by a lady protagonist matters as the content was so poor.”

“They did work a lot on the action but to no avail.”

If Kangana’s next few films don’t deliver, it could be game over for the talented actress.

“Intelligent Stubbornness”: Manoj Bajpayee on Chasing Dreams and Staying Relevant

Published

How does the son of a farmer from a small village in Bihar rise to stardom in the bustling and competitive world of Mumbai’s film industry? For Manoj Bajpayee, the answer lies in being “intelligently stubborn.”

The versatile actor, known for roles ranging from Bhiku Mhatre in Satya to Srikant Tiwari in The Family Man, attributes his success to his ability to navigate challenging circumstances without losing sight of his dreams. Speaking to PTI, Bajpayee reflected on his journey, which began in the village of Belwa and led to a celebrated career in both mainstream and arthouse cinema.

“You have to be intelligently stubborn and audacious,” Bajpayee shared. “Circumstances and situations will test you constantly and make you doubt yourself. But commitment to your dreams is what keeps you going.”

After his breakthrough role in Ram Gopal Varma’s 1998 underworld drama Satya, Bajpayee was inundated with offers to play similar roles. However, he was determined not to be typecast. “I was stubborn about not getting boxed into one type of role. The industry didn’t know what else to offer me, so they offered money. But I refused. I knew that if I became a villain, I might never escape that image,” he explained.

Bajpayee’s calculated defiance set him apart. Inspired by the careers of other actors like Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Kay Kay Menon, he charted a unique path, taking on diverse roles in films such as Shool, Gangs of Wasseypur, Aligarh, and Sonchiriya. His adaptability extended to digital platforms, with standout performances in Gulmohar and The Family Man.

Growing up as one of six siblings, Bajpayee dreamed of acting despite his family’s limited means. At 17, he moved to Delhi, pursued education to honor his mother’s wishes, and immersed himself in theatre before heading to Mumbai. His persistence bore fruit with a small role in Drohkaal (1994) and recognition in Bandit Queen. His big break came with Satya, which not only launched his career but also inspired countless others from Bihar to chase their dreams.

“It wasn’t just my village; many young people from Bihar gained the courage to step out of their comfort zones after Satya. It showed them that if I could do it, they could too,” he said.

Despite his success, Bajpayee remains connected to his roots in Belwa. “When I was there, I wanted to leave. Now that I’ve achieved my dreams, I feel drawn back.”

Bajpayee’s upcoming project, Despatch, where he plays investigative journalist Joy Bag, will premiere on ZEE5 on December 13. His journey, defined by resilience and intelligent stubbornness, continues to inspire dreamers across the country.
